2023 Best Ball Sleepers

best ball

Hello Everyone, Coach Craig here! This is my debut article for The League Winners. Today I will be highlighting four players who I believe are values at their respective ADP (Average Draft Position) for fantasy football best ball leagues.

All ADP listed below will be pulled from FantasyPros for Underdog as of July 14th.

Matthew Stafford, QB – Los Angeles Rams

ADP: QB20, 149 Overall

After a tough and injury plagued season, Matthew Stafford enters 2023 with a clean bill of health. He also happens to be one of my favorite QB2 targets for Best Ball Leagues. During the 2021 season, Stafford averaged 19.25 fantasy points per game.He finished as a top 10 QB in eight of 17 weeks, including five weeks as a top 5 QB.

I expect more health for the Rams offensive line that struggled with injuries in 2022. Don’t forget, Van Jefferson also missed time at the beginning of the year due to knee surgery. All of these factors make Stafford a strong value at his current ADP.

Tank Bigsby, RB – Jacksonville Jaguars

ADP: RB47, 141 Overall

While Travis Etienne had a solid rookie season, the Jacksonville Jaguars still felt the need to draft another RB in 2023; remember, Etienne was drafted by the previous coaching staff. In comes Tank Bigsby, who was selected in the third round.

Bigsby had a solid career at Auburn, where he broke out as a true freshman behind a less than stellar offensive line. He may not be the home run threat that Etienne is, but he offers the skill-set of a true three-down RB. Tank is sure to be used around the goal line and will have some spike weeks.  However, the true value lies if Etienne were to miss time. Or, the potential that this ends up being more of a split background than expected.

Curtis Samuel, WR – Washington Commanders

ADP: WR75, 175 Overall

It seems like just yesterday we were all excited about Curtis Samuel. Now entering his age-27 season and the 3rd option in an offense that also features Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson, he appears to be an after thought.

Samuel quietly had 64 receptions for 656 yards and 4 TDs last season. He also carried the ball 38 times for 187 yards and an additional TD. Samuel also finished as WR36 or higher in seven of 17 weeks in 2022.

Now he gets a new offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, who has a history of using versatile players on offense.

Many around the industry are expecting big breakouts for Antonio Gibson and Jahan Dotson. Instead, take the value at ADP in best ball with Curtis Samuel.

Darren Waller, TE – New York Giants

ADP: TE7, 78 Overall

I’ll be 100% honest – I didn’t dig quite as deep at TE. With that said, Darren Waller could be an incredible value in best ball leagues this year. Much of the concern with Waller is from injuries he has suffered over the last two seasons. However, after being traded to the New York Giants, Waller seems to be the clear No. 1 option for Daniel Jones. Expect him to command targets with top 5 upside on a weekly basis when healthy.

Best case scenario: Darren Waller ends up as a league winner for you.

Worst case scenario: you pair Waller with a young up-and-coming TE like Chig Okonkwo to help cover the weeks where Waller isn’t fully healthy.

Conclusion

Most best ball Leagues are won by finding value and having solid roster construction. Each of these players listed above have the potential to help your team(s) in 2023 at their respective ADP. Be sure to let me know some of your favorite best ball sleepers in the comments below!
