Film Notes and Highlights

Caleb Williams tape will give you the highlights and throw in some lowlights as well. I took a look at mostly his 2023 season, but also watched a game in 2022. I think in 2022 with Jordan Addison there were smaller amounts of the hero ball from Williams, but it did show up occasionally. He is an athlete and so elusive that at times he gets himself in trouble when he should just take the sack or throw it away.

He makes plays similar to Patrick Mahomes and his improvisation is some of the best I have seen in college. Williams progresses through his reads better than I thought he would and has such a quick release. Since he gets away with throwing unconventionally sometimes his fundamentals are off and it can affect accuracy at times. He does throw a pretty deep ball and connects with receivers in stride.

The next step for Williams is taking the easy completions and not treating every play like it has to win the game. USC’s offensive line was not very good last year and the receivers did not get separation. With a better line and defense does he try to be Superman all the time? Only time will tell but I think all the talent is there and he is by far in my eyes the best quarterback in this draft. – Brandon Haye
