Film Notes and Highlights
James Williams is a powerful safety. Williams has a big frame and is always looking to make a big hit on the ball carrier every time he makes contact. He played plenty of box safety with Miami (FL) to help with run support. However, Williams lacks true instincts in the run support, missing gap assignments, but shows good pursuit angles.
James Williams struggles in man coverage, often getting handsy with receivers to limit separation because he does not have high-end speed. He’s inconsistent in zone – at times letting receivers get past him in deep coverage. In other zone situations, he plays well and often makes good contact at the catch point. Williams has a lot of potential, but comes into the draft with work to do at the position. I have a mid Day 3 grade on Williams. – Thomas Christopher
