Film Notes and Highlights

Michael Penix is a cerebral quarterback with a quick, albeit low, release. He understands defensive concepts, timing importance, and constantly going through progressions. Penix has adequate arm strength, and inconsistent accuracy; though once he gets into a rhythm he can pick apart defenses. When he does miss, however, he usually misses high – which can lead to turnovers on passes in the middle of the field.

Michael Penix Jr is a pass-first quarterback, and will opt for the checkdown option instead of scrambling for yards. He avoids taking sacks at all costs, even if it means throwing the ball into no man’s land. He also has a tendency of getting his passes batted at the line of scrimmage due to the low release on his throwing motion.

When facing pressure, Penix can tend to drift his body backwards upon release. Sometimes this can lead to a lack of power on deep opportunities. When on the run, Penix’s accurate is inconsistent and isn’t the best at making off-platform throws. Penix is a Day 2 quarterback with a lot of potential. – Thomas Christopher
