Film Notes and Highlights

Rome Odunze really improved from his 2022 to 2023 season. He went from being a good receiver to being a great receiver. Odunze uses his size and physicality very well down the field. He is great at tracking the ball and his body control is unreal. One of the best deep threats in college football in 2023, Odunze routinely would adjust in the air to catch contested passes, especially on back shoulder throws. He also did a great job showing late hands, making it difficult for defenders to know when the ball is arriving.

Rome Odunze does not have elite speed but is such a deep threat option that he would get a lot of cushion from defenders. He would take advantage of that cushion and press the defenders to win on comebacks or out routes. Odunze is never going to be elite in yards after the catch categories but has some moves to get extra yards. Washington did do a great job of scheming Odunze open, especially in bunch receiver sets. Because of that, he will need to continue to improve his release and the nuances of route running. In any other WR class he would easily be the top receiver, but still should be an impact player right out of the gate. – Brandon Haye
