Film Notes and Highlights
Tykee Smith is a versatile safety. At Georgia, he was moved from the box, playing slot corner, as a middle linebacker, and as a safety. He’s a very aggressive player who chips pass-catchers at the LOS and blows up blocks on screens and short hitches. Smith shows good pad level on contact but inconsistent tackling form. He’s very instinctual, with great pursuit angles to stop plays early.
In the passing game, Tykee Smith is better at man coverage than in zone. He utilizes good angles to avoid pick plays and has good instinct on the routes that are coming. He can have some issue with elite footwork at the release, but has adequate speed not to be beaten by most players. Smith does has some issues in zone coverage, where he can be fooled trying to read the quarterback’s eyes. At times he seems to be covering grass instead of players entering his zone. I have a Day 2 grade on Smith due to his great versatility. – Thomas Christopher
