The 2025-26 college football season may be just about wrapped up, but the All-Star events and NFL draft are well underway. As prospects aim to showcase their talents and abilities to scouts, one of the most vital ways to do so is participating in all-star games. And, we’ve now entered the beginning of the inaugural American Bowl.
While there are plenty of underrated players participating in the event, there are also key players destined to make a splash and to be on the lookout for. With that being said, let’s jump right into it.
2026 American Bowl: Key Players
Tommy Castellanos, QB, Florida State
Florida State didn’t have the season many may have expected. However, Tommy Castellanos consistently showed the kind of playmaking ability that kept the Seminoles dangerous.
The dual-threat quarterback threw for 2760 yards and 15 touchdowns in the 2025 season. He was also FSU’s leading rusher with 557 rushing yards. One of Castellanos’ most notable performances in the 2025 season came in Week 1 against No. 8 Alabama.
Carrying the Seminoles both in the air and on the ground, his impact went way beyond the numbers. And, Castellanos led them to a thrilling victory in starting the season off on a high note.
Despite the challenges, Castellanos emerged as a key piece of the offense, using his mobility and quick decision-making to keep drives alive in crucial situations. Even in a difficult year, his resilience stood out and will translate well to the American Bowl, an all-star setting in which confidence and adaptability are critical.
Star Thomas, RB, Tennessee
Tennessee running back Star Thomas may not be the flashiest, but he is a powerful and productive presence in the backfield.
This season, Thomas racked up 596 yards on 104 carries and seven touchdowns. Against Florida, he tallied 71 yards on nine carries and one touchdown, with his longest run of the contest spanning 52 yards. Explosive and impactful, Thomas acquired significant attention for this performance on the road in a tough SEC environment.
In an all-star setting, he projects the capability to blend power and focus, making him effective in both rushing attacks and short-yardage situations.
Eric McAlister, WR, TCU
McAlister is a versatile and physical receiver, bringing size and mobility to the American Bowl.
His most dominant performance this season came against SMU, where he posted eight receptions for 254 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 31.8 yards per catch. As a focal point of the offense, McAlister highlighted his production and ability to beat defenders and win battles down the field.
Among all, his competitiveness might stand out the most. He’s not afraid to fight for extra yards at midfield and ultimately continues to prove himself as a reliable asset.
Skyler Thomas, S, Oregon State
High-motor safety Skyler Thomas has established his presence well on the back end.
Positing notable stats throughout the season, his most impressive performance came in the season opener against the California Golden Bears. Despite the loss, activity in the secondary was high with assists from Thomas. He totaled nine tackles, including five solo, and two pass breakups. While it was a challenging season for the Beavers, he was able to set the tone for the steady production that he would continue to showcase.
Operating with a sense of urgency, Thomas consistently flies to the football and is a sure tackler. He can read concepts quickly and keep the defense up to par, limiting explosive gains and causing momentum swings in his team’s favor. In an all-star setting, his dependability gives him the opportunity to really stand out as a reliable safety across the field.
Javin Wright, LB, Nebraska
Wright is an instinctive linebacker who can diagnose both the run and the pass quickly and effectively.
His best performance came when Nebraska secured a road victory over Maryland, where Wright totaled 12 tackles, including nine solo and three assists. Consistently ranging around the football, he’s notable in his ability to maintain execution defensively and finishing plays in high-pressure situations.
Wright’s combination of speed and effort stands out throughout his play-making abilities, ensuring he remains versatile in coverage with efficiency that will translate well in the American Bowl.
Cole Brevard, DL, Texas
An intriguing defender in the trenches, Cole Brevard brings a powerful presence to an all-star roster.
Brevard’s best performance this season came against Georgia, where he logged multiple tackles while also consistently occupying blockers and disrupting the run game. Production from the line may not always be visible on the stats sheet, but their contributions are always greatly impactful. His ability to get through and collapse the pocket while anchoring the line ensures he’s a dependable force on the defense.
Along with physicality, his strength allows him to hold his ground against opposing rushing attacks. His awareness and discipline also radiate throughout the forefront as he routinely works to finish plays no matter where they end up landing on the field. Brevard’s play style and willingness to continuously battle it out in the trenches make him a reliable defensive lineman and contributor.
