With the head coaching change, the Auburn Tigers’ football roster was guaranteed to be in flux this transfer portal season. With that in mind, we will look at it with this “top-5 series”, starting with the positive: the incoming transfers for Auburn.
Auburn has had 39 players transfer in for this portal class. A large following has joined new head coach Alex Golesh from South Florida, while a mixture of players with one year of eligibility or multiple years of eligibility to layer the roster depth. Unfortunately, Auburn has also lost 36 players to the portal, and because of this Auburn is ranked 66th according to On3.com. With this many players coming in, it would take 4,000,000 words to discuss them all, so we will look at the top-5 most impactful transfers
Auburn Football Transfer Portal: The Most Impactful Offensive Transfers
Byrum Brown, QB, USF, One Year of Eligibility
Alex Golesh gets his quarterback to follow him to Auburn from USF to help kick-start his coaching career on the Plains. To say Auburn has had inconsistent quarterback play over the last three years might be the understatement of the century. Now, much to the chagrin of those quarterbacks, it looks like it may not have been all their faults and blame can be heavily placed on the shoulders of one Hugh Freeze. So the breath of fresh air surrounding Byrum Brown coming into the program with Golesh is welcomed wholeheartedly by Auburn fans.
Brown is immediately going to make an impact because he has the talent to make any throw necessary. He also has the athleticism to take off and run when he has to. He is one of 12 players to ever throw for 3000 passing yards and rush for 1000 yards in the same season. Brown actually almost did it twice, but came just short in 2023 with only 809 rushing yards. The bonus for Brown and Auburn fans is that he already knows the system Golesh runs. That means he will not have to learn it, but will be able to help teach it. If Brown has the season Auburn fans are hoping for, then Auburn will likely surprise a lot of people in 2026.
Cole Best, IOL, USF, One Year of Eligibility
The quarterback-center exchange is one of the most important minute details of football. If the snap is bad, then the play is likely going to be bad. This is why having a quarterback and center who have played together and have great chemistry together is vitally important for the success of an offense. This is where Cole Best enters the picture.
Best played center at USF and has snapped the ball to Byrum Brown for at least an entire year of practice and games. His experience is going to be extremely important for the entirety of the Auburn football team. This is especially true for the offensive line, who has a perfect mixture of players who have played a lot of football, and those who have played very little football. Best also knows the system that Golesh runs and how Brown makes adjustments, and will be able to teach others this instead of having to learn it.
Keshaun Singleton, WR, USF, Two Years of Eligibility
Auburn lost a lot of their wide receiver room to the transfer portal, so someone had to come in and replace them. Luckily, Auburn had plenty to pick from with USF and their wide receiver corp. Keshaun Singleton offers the aforementioned familiarity, but also talent. He led USF in 2025 with 50 catches for 877 yards and eight touchdowns. This is better than any Auburn wide receiver in 2025 by 150 yards. It has been a long time since Auburn has had a 1000-yard receiver. Singleton will face the pressure that many before him have had, and that pressure is to be the next great Auburn wide receiver. He can start a streak of Auburn wide receivers hitting 1000 yards or keep the opposite streak alive.
Jeremiah Koger, WR, USF, Three Years of Eligibility
As mentioned above, Auburn lost a lot of bodies and production from their wide receiver room. Jeremiah Koger was second on the USF Bulls in receiving yards, receptions, and tied for first in touchdown receptions as a true freshman. With a majority of the players leaving having been in the sophomore class, some youth is needed for the future and Koger provides that. He also provides talent and production.
Stanton Ramil, OT, Michigan State, Three Years of Eligibility
Offensive line has been a struggle of Auburn’s since the Gus Malzahn era due to lack of recruiting and development. For Byrum Brown and the rest of the offense to have success, the offensive line is going to have to play better than they have in years. Last year, Auburn brought in the top tackle in the college football transfer portal. Yet unfortunately, that did not work out as well as fans hoped for.
Now, Auburn is trying a different route this year, and that started with Stanton Ramil. The former Thompson Warrior played his first two years at Michigan State and was plagued with injuries. When healthy he played well, so the hope is that he can maintain his health and be a viable starting tackle for Auburn.
Joseph Simmons, OT, James Madison, Two Years of Eligibility
Auburn had to rebuild their two-deep lineup on the offensive line. They had to find starters and backups at almost every position. The vision is for Joseph Simmons, the redshirt junior from James Madison, to be one of the starting tackles. The question is going to be can he make the jump like the USF players from G6 to Power 4. If he can, then he will help the improvement of the offensive line that is desperately needed.
Bryson Washington, RB, Baylor, Three Years of Eligibility
If you can’t beat them, then join them is a fine mantra in college football. Alex Golesh has said multiple times that Auburn is going to run the ball a lot. The Tigers still have Jeremiah Cobb, but if they are going to run it as much as Golesh suggests, then they will need multiple running backs that can handle the ball. Bryson Washington transferred from Baylor (Auburn’s Week 1 opponent in 2025 and 2026) with 154 carries, 788 yards and six touchdowns in 2025. His 2024 season was actually better when he compiled 1028 yards and 12 touchdowns on 175 carries. The potential for Washington to be really good is definitely there, but the question is what can he do as Cobb’s backup and we will find that out.
Honorable Mention
Auburn signed nine offensive linemen in the transfer portal and this is going to be huge for their development going into the college football season. They mixed well with those who have playing time and those with potential. The other honorable mentions are Tristan Ti’ia and Locklan Hewlett. These two have the potential to be the quarterback of the future and show how Alex Golesh develops quarterbacks, something Auburn has not had in a decade.
