SEC to Revive “Horns Down” Gesture
As the Texas Longhorns enter the SEC in 2024, a gesture that was all but banned in the Big 12 will join them. The “Horns Down” taunting gesture of the Longhorns’ iconic hand gesture has been restored and will not invoke an unsportsmanlike penalty in the SEC. For SEC coordinators, it didn’t pass the “mall test”, as explained by senior coordinator John McDaid.
“If you took that act out of a football stadium and did it in a shopping mall or a grocery store, would it offend the senses to a majority of the reasonable people in the area? That signal would not,” exclaimed McDaid. “You might have some people that share that signal with you, if you did that at a grocery store or a shopping mall, depending where you are. We’re going to evaluate it in context.”
Remembering Andre Seldon Jr.
There’s never an easy way to accept the loss of someone who’s gone before their time. And on Saturday, the college football world mourns the news of the passing of Utah State cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. Seldon reportedly drowned after a cliff diving accident at the Porcupine Reservoir in Utah. The news is truly devastating, and thoughts and prayers go towards his family and friends.
Seldon played for the Michigan Wolverines, New Mexico State Aggies, and was to play for the Utah State Aggies this season. It’s hard to think of a better way to remember Seldon than during his time competing in the sport he loved.

Brennaman’s Back?
Sportscaster Thom Brennaman has reportedly signed a deal to announce nationally televised college football games for the The CW. Brennaman will make his debut on August 31 when Idaho State takes on Oregon State. The 60-year old is expected to cover both the Pac-12 and the ACC for the network.
Brennaman was a former Cincinnati Reds broadcaster who was fired for using a homophobic slur unknowingly on a hot mic four years ago. It also led to one of the most-used sports memes during the social media era.

Brennaman himself was surprised at the opportunity, and thankful for it.
“There are no words to describe how grateful I am that they’re rolling the dice,” Brennaman told The Athletic. “They don’t have to do this.”
Randall Cobb Joins SEC Network
Former NFL wide receiver and Kentucky alum Randall Cobb is taking on a television role. The 33-year old is joining the SEC Network as a college football analyst.
“I am incredibly excited to be coming home to the SEC with this new role,” Cobb said in a statement. “The level of greatness this conference provides year after year is unmatched … I cannot wait to return to the conference family with this SEC Network crew.”
Despite taking the analyst position, Cobb insists that he is not retiring from the NFL. However, it seems unlikely we see the former Green Bay Packers receiver back in the league – unless he receives a call from Aaron Rodgers again.
