Cook was linked to the Jets from the beginning, with some reports stating that he would sign almost immediately after visiting them. Jets nation had to wait a bit longer, but the two were eventually connected.
This is fantastic news for the Jets as they likely start the season with Breece Hall on the PUP list. This signing allows for Hall to be able to recover from his injury and not be rushed back. It also allows the Jets offense to add a pivotal playmaker on offense and continue to be able to compete in a pretty stacked AFC East.
Running backs Michael Carter or Zonovan Knight are likely the odd men out – either via trade or being waived by the Jets.
28-year old Dalvin Cook will bring with him four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons; something the Jets haven’t had since Chris Ivory in 2015.
Dalvin Cook – Fantasy Football Implications
As far as fantasy football goes, I imagine Halls value begins to drop. It looks to be Cook’s backfield for the time being as Hall continues to ease his way back onto the field. This could lead to a huge increase in Cook’s ADP – and the potential to be a true RB1 in fantasy.
As for Aaron Rodgers, this adds just another weapon to his wheelhouse as the Jets continue to surround their future hall of famer with weapons. It will also free up the passing game, allowing Garrett Wilson to receive less attention. When Hall is fully ready to practice and play, the Jets could have a dominant one-two punch on the ground.
Overall, the signing should be seen as a boost for Wilson and Rodgers, but a bit of a drop for almost all other running backs on the Jets roster. Cook will look to thrive in the AFC. I personally can’t wait to tune into Hard Knocks this week for a new Jets update!
