Who is Micah Hudson?
Micah Hudson is a 5⭐️ in the composites and attended Lake Beltan High in Texas. Hudson was a tri-sport athlete. Not only was he outstanding on the football field, he was also a varsity soccer and basketball player. We love multi-sport players, as it gives us an indication of their athletic traits and high-end skill set.
Micah Hudson held 35 offers and visited Texas Tech eight times before becoming the highest recruit ever in the school’s history. The familiarity with the coaching staff played a large part in Hudson’s decision.
Hudson comes in with good size and functional play strength. He is an electric player on tape with good route running ability at this stage in his game. He is someone with great lateral agility and movement that allows him to be a threat in space. Hudson will create after the catch and should be utilized in jet sweeps and quick push passes that will accentuate his strength with the ball in his hands – where he can use his creativity. The WR also has superb body control and awareness on the field, making spectacular plays look mundane.
As a receiver, Hudson tracks the ball very well. He has strong hands to come down with 50-50 passes – a true “Alpha” mentality. With his shiftiness,, Hudson can be used in the slot or outside. He can be a chess piece lined up everywhere on the football field and will have an advantage. Hudson is a speedy athlete with multiple gears. He has the fluidity to get to top end speed in a few strides with minimal wasted movement. Hudson has the ability to make home run plays in a multitude of ways.
Pathway to Success
Micah Hudson should find his way into the starting lineup from day one. The position is void of any true talent currently on the roster at Texas Tech; and we saw the top 3 talents at the position transfer out. In this NIL world, and with Hudson being Texas Tech’s highest rated recruit in history, they will not want to squander that away. He should earn one of the starting WR spots and be involved in the game plan early and often. Hudson is one of the few True Freshman WRs that can make an impact on day one.
Area of Improvements and Concern
Micah Hudson will continue to refine his craft as a true technician in his routes. At this stage he is a good route runner, and should be able to work on that while still being an impactful player. We are nitpicking here, but he can be a more consistent run blocker. Texas Tech isn’t exactly a hotbed for NFL development. While this circumstance is unique due to the relationship Hudson has with the coaching staff; coming from a non-traditional NFL pipeline, there could be developmental concerns with his game as an entire package.
Devy and C2C Value
In Devy drafts, Hudson should be a top 2 pick, even if it’s a Superflex format. Predicting values at quarterback and running back can be volatile. We’ve seen it this past cycle with Malachi Nelson, Drew Allar, Dante Moore, as the entire RB position also lost a lot of value. Hudson should be able to increase his value as a Devy asset as he’ll be in the starting lineup from Week 1. There’s a similar trajectory to Evan Stewart in this regard.
For C2C supplemental drafts, Hudson should also be a top 2 pick. Arguments could be made that he be the 1.01 in this format, due to immediate projected CFF production, Hudson could very well be a flex play by the middle of the season. You can’t say that about the majority of the Freshman class. In startups, it’s not out of the question that he shouldn’t be an early second round pick to late third round pick.
With the 2024 class exiting, many of the top ranked Devy assets we’ve had are moving on. There’s a new influx of talent, and there’s a real possibility that Hudson could be a top 12 Devy asset at WR and a top 25 overall Devy asset before he even plays a game. Overall, Hudson will be a player that makes an immediate impact and will be someone who will gain value from day one.
NFL Outlook
Micah Hudson’s play style reminds me of Ja’Marr Chase. An exceptional talent that could very well be a top 15 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. Hudson, at this stage, already has advanced body control and awareness with the knack of making the unordinary look ordinary. We are projecting several years out, but he should be able to continue to refine his craft. His ability to create in open space along with his other traits, should have GM’s and coaches clamoring to get him and be amongst the upper tier wide receivers in the NFL.
