Devy Sleeper Spotlight: AD Mitchell

devy sleeper spotlight Adonai Mitchell

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Adonai ‘AD’ Mitchell is under the microscope in this Devy Sleeper Spotlight.

Texas is back!” At least, that’s what the Longhorn faithful would like you to believe. The Longhorns look to go out on top, as they have positioned themselves to compete for a Big 12 Championship in their final season before they depart for the vaunted SEC. One player who looks to play a big part in those championship aspirations is transfer wide receiver Adonai “AD” Mitchell. And Mitchell is the highlight in this Devy Sleeper Spotlight.

Mitchell joins the Longhorns after a promising Freshman campaign, followed by an injury-riddled Sophomore season playing for the back-to-back National Champion Georgia Bulldogs.

AD played an integral part for those Bulldogs teams. He scored a touchdown in all four of Georgia’s college football playoff match ups over the past two seasons.

Here’s why Mitchell is a potential riser for the 2024 NFL Draft an why you should be looking to add this Devy sleeper in Campus2Canton rosters.

The Player

Mitchell was a 24/7 composite 4⭐️ in the class of 2021 out of the state of Tennessee. He received multiple offers to top SEC schools before ultimately joining the Bulldogs.

Mitchell enjoyed a successful Freshman season. He had 29 receptions for 426 yards and four touchdowns.

As you can see below, Mitchell performed admirably in some key metrics during his Freshman season when compared to other top 2024 draft prospects.

The System

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has an extensive track record for not only getting production from the wide receiver position, but also putting big time talent into the NFL. That means a Devy sleeper under Sarkisian could become a League Winner.

Look no further than his time at Alabama in 2019 and 2020. “Sark” served as the offensive coordinator that, in 2019, had four future NFL 1st round draft picks in the same receiver room!

Sarkisian followed that up in 2020 by calling the plays that led to DeVonta Smith becoming just the third wide receiver in NCAA history to capture the Heisman Trophy.

Over 11 seasons as an offensive coordinator or head coach, Sarkisian’s top wide receivers have averaged 72 receptions, 1,076 yards, and 11 touchdowns. His secondary options have also averaged a respectable 50 receptions, 684 yards and 5 touchdowns.

The Situation

Texas is loaded with top-end talent on the offense, and looks to go out with a bang in their finale as members of the Big 12 conference.

As quarterback prospect Quinn Ewers looks to live up to the hype, he’ll need someone to step up alongside standout receiver Xavier Worthy. Mitchell looks to be that guy, and has been getting rave reviews in camp.

The Outlook

At 6’4 and 195lbs, Mitchell enters Texas by way of the transfer portal as a newly minted 5⭐️ prospect with all the physical tools and natural talent to ascend to stardom.

He even drew the admiration of former teammate and current Pittsburgh Steelers budding star George Pickens during their time together in Athens.

If “AD” can stay healthy, and live up to the promise of his immense talent, he’s someone that could see his NFL Draft stock rise by season’s end. In the meantime, I believe Mitchell could be an excellent Devy sleeper, and someone to target in Devy and C2C drafts – or as an early in season acquisition.
