Devy Spotlight: Evan Stewart

Texas A&M wide receiver is under the microscope in this edition of the Devy Spotlight.

Texas A&M Sophomore wide receiver Evan Stewart is a budding superstar in the college football landscape and it’s time more people took notice.

Stewart is on a career trajectory to become an early day one selection in the 2025 NFL draft. He should be considered the frontrunner for the overall WR1 in Devy and C2C formats as soon as the 2024 draft class graduates.

As a Recruit

Rated as a 5⭐️ recruit and the number one overall receiver in the 2022 class by 24/7 sports, Stewart was a multi-sport athlete that excelled in track and field – as well as on the football field.

A highly sought after recruit, Stewart received offers from almost the entirety of the SEC, as well as countless other blue-blood programs across the nation. Stewart ultimately decided on Texas A&M, as he headlined the number one recruiting class in the country.

Joining A&M was a decision some were questioning. Head coach Jimbo Fisher doesn’t own the greatest track record in developing top flight wide receiver prospects. That may have played a part in the fantasy football communities trepidation to place Stewart in his rightful place atop the rankings.

The Player

A fluid, quick-twitch athlete with tremendous body control and the ability to high-point contested catches, Stewart shows no obvious weakness to his game.

A refined route runner with advanced technical abilities, Stewart’s track background shows up in both his abilities to create separation, as well as his yards after catch skills.

In his first year on campus, Stewart paced the Aggies in both receptions (53) as well as receiving yards (649) across 10 contests. His best performances came vs Florida. He finished with 8 receptions for 120 yards. His second-best performance came against perennial powerhouse Alabama, where he totaled 8 receptions for 106 yards.

Stewart’s come out the gate on all cylinders to begin the 2023 season. He kicked off the year with an 8 catch, 115 yard, 2 touchdown performance vs New Mexico. He followed that up with a 11 reception, 142 yard performance against the Miami Hurricanes.

The Outlook

The South Eastern Conference has not only been a popular place for the NFL to mine for football talent. It’s also been a hot bed for producing elite fantasy football assets, especially at the wide receiver position.

Stewart stacks up admirably when compared to those elite fantasy assets who have come from the SEC in recent years.

The Sophomore wide receiver also stands out when we compare his early career performance against some premium dynasty assets; as well as the consensus WR1 & WR2 for the class of 2024.

Stewart has  shown good chemistry with new starting quarterback, and fellow 5⭐️ Conner Weigman. Stewart has gone over 80 receiving yards in four of the six games they’ve played together, including back-to-back 100 yard performances to start the 2023 season.

Couple that growing chemistry with a more up tempo offense that new offensive co-ordinator Bobby Petrino has brought to town, and there’s no telling just how high Stewart’s stock will rise over the next two seasons.
