Week 12 is on the horizon with three games on Turkey Day and another on Black Friday. That’s right, Thanksgiving weekend is here… and with it comes a ton of fantasy-friendly football fisticuffs to fancy. Hopefully you find yourself in a dynasty fantasy football league without a trade deadline. If you don’t, run! But, seriously, you should either be working with no deadline at all or a regular-season cutoff that shuts down trading only during the playoffs. For me, any other option is no bueno for the health of your league, and your championship aspirations.
But while we’ve been temporarily shut down, I’ve been open for business this past week. I’ve been wheeling and dealing all over the place. So, this week, I’m going to dive into my deals and pull out some buys and sells to help you crush your competition.
So, gobble, gobble, you jive turkeys. Let’s get to move makin…
Buy Davante Adams
At this point in the season, you should be buying up elder statesmen who can put up points for your contending squads down the stretch. And, you won’t find a better dynasty fantasy football buy at the moment than Davante Adams.
When it comes to bang for your buck, Adams is one of the cheapest point-getters in the game. You’d do well to check to see if any out-of-contention squads are looking to shed his points from their roster.
Since the Raiders sent Josh McDaniels packing and switched over to Aidan O’Connell full-time, Adams has enjoyed back-to-back 13 target games. Over the two-game span, Adams is averaging 6.5 receptions for 84 yards and 0.5 TDs. This is exactly what we’ve come to expect from a post-Rodgers Adams, so it’s good to see it’s coming back.
There may even be a few booms to come, given that the Jets and Dolphins had very good secondaries.
But what’s most appealing about Adams is his cost. Due to the fact that he’s 30 years old and stuck in a poor situation, his value is currently depressed. Thankfully, the fantasy points should continue to flow, especially with juicy matchups in Weeks 14, 15 and 17.
I’d pay as much as a back-end 1st as long as the Adams owner agrees to throw in a little extra. Here, I managed to spend a little less.
Sell Joe Burrow
Of course, if your team isn’t competing for much this season, you should be looking to buy Joe Burrow. However, it’s sell season if you’ve just lost him for the year on a contender. For a top-3 team in the league, it’s time to bite the bullet and make the deal.
Deals like this are always team and league dependent. You’ll have to take a long, hard look at your squad and your opponents to see if you can compete with such a tough loss. And if you do decide your window is now, you’ll be making deals like this:
To be clear, I’m not happy about sending away this elite stack. And, like most, I don’t have the exceptional DeVonta Smith anywhere near the exceptionally elite Ja’Marr Chase. But, with this squad in 1st and great everywhere else, I pushed ‘Accept’.
I don’t normally celebrate clear losses when trading, but this one keeps me relevant while grabbing a nearly 1-for-1 replacement of Burrow in the process. I don’t love Alexander Mattison, but the picks are also likely to be very early given that the squad taking on Burrow is shedding major points and already out of contention.
This is more of a need-to than anything else, but to remain relevant and vie for the dynasty fantasy football league chip, you should be selling Burrow now for the most you can get.
Buy David Montgomery
Jahmyr Gibbs is for real. It’s actually great to see after he was drafted 12th overall this past Spring. He’s currently the PPR RB8 on the season while Bijan Robinson is the RB17.
But I mention Gibbs to say, as good as he’s been, David Montgomery has been just as good. Although just the PPR RB24, Monty is the RB8 by points per game according to Fantasy Pros. And even though his volume has decreased a ton with the emergence of Gibbs, he’s been highly efficient, splitting goal line work and ripping off huge runs.
Monty is no longer an RB1 in value, and that’s exactly why he’s a buy. With only 2 menacing run defenses left on the Lions schedule, Montgomery is set to smash as a high-end RB2 every week. He’s very likely the last piece of the puzzle you need, available at a discount because of the fear of Gibbs’ 1A role.
Don’t be afraid of Gibbs. He’s great, but Monty’s role is also secure. I’ll buy for 2nd and a 3rd. In this case, the 2nd was locked into the top 3.
Sell Your 1st Round Picks
On a contender, I’m making moves to bolster my squad for the stretch run. At this point in the season, you should know where your roster holes are and how they can be filled.
Over the past few days, I’ve traded a back-end 1st for Rachaad White, Dallas Goedert and Aaron Jones, and I’ve even sent two 1sts in this deal:
Of course, sending your 1sts means you’re all in. A push for the ‘ship doesn’t come cheap, but you can get a lot of bang for your April bucks this winter if you know what you need. In this case, I had a competing bestball dynasty fantasy football squad with no QB1. In this superflex league, I have Aaron Rodgers, Jimmy Garoppolo, Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe and Trey Lance at the position. A move needed to be made. Enter Kyler Murray.
Now, I’m well equipped to face down the top teams in my league, which is the whole point. Don’t be afraid to send away your prized draft capital to acquire top-tier talent. To compete in the playoffs, you’re gonna need it.
Those are my best buys and sells just before the all-you-can-eat holiday. I’ll be back next week with more buys and sells to build the filthiest dynasty fantasy football squad imaginable. Until then.
