Fantasy Football 2021: Add and Stash Week Five

With injuries wreaking havoc in fantasy football leagues, fantasy managers will be ravaging the waiver wire for the next man up. This causes managers to panic-drop injured or under-performing players. This doesn’t mean your league mates don’t know what they’re doing, but their specific team needs may have valued one player over another. As we like to say here on Add and Stash; One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Check your waiver wire for these potential drops and stash them in your lineup. All roster percentages are via ESPN Fantasy Football.

Quarterback

Ryan Tannehill TEN (77.2% Rostered | 28.2% Started) – Ryan Tannehill was regarded as a potential late-round quarterback to break into the top-12 in fantasy football. He is currently ranked 17th in 4PT touchdown scoring and is started in less than 30% of leagues he’s rostered in. Look for him to be dropped for names like Sam Darnold or Trey Lance, who were mentioned in my waiver article. He’s had back-to-back serviceable weeks and an intermediate rest of season schedule. If you’re struggling at the position, Tannehill should be of value to your team going forward.

Running Back

Ronald Jones II TB (54.3% Rostered | 3.5% Started) – Ronald Jones has been subject to the doghouse one too many times. With a disappointing season thus far, Jones is almost definitely heading to the waiver wire. His counterpart, Leonard Fournette, seems to be stealing the show. In order for Jones to be relevant it would take an injury. But that’s exactly the reason you should stash him. Just like a handcuff of any star running back, RoJo is just one injury or misplay away from being a fantasy football RB2. The Buccaneers have an average schedule coming up. Jones is a great depth piece with top-24 potential.

Wide Receiver

Robby Anderson CAR (87.1% Rostered | 16.7% Started) – Robby Anderson has been somewhat of a bust. After his 50-yard touchdown in Week 1, Anderson has not surpassed 10 fantasy points in a game. What most casual fantasy managers won’t look at are the underlying facts. In the first game after Dan Arnold was traded, Anderson jumped from two targets to 11 targets. Sure, he caught less than 50% of those, but this is a step in the right direction. Opportunity is king in fantasy football, so if the targets are there the points will follow. I’m looking for someone to drop Robby Anderson so I can scoop him up.

Tight End

Rob Gronkowski TB (97.6% Rostered | 12.6% Started) – Another Buccaneer on this list, and of course, it’s Rob Gronkowski. Gronk has suffered multiple rib fractures and a punctured lung. It is safe to say he will be missing some time. Fantasy managers drafted Gronk late in drafts this year, so it’s likely they drop him for a tight end streamer; like one I listed in my recent article here. If you have an extra roster spot do not be afraid to use it on him. No one has a greater chance of catching touchdowns from Tom Brady than Rob Gronkowski. He can be a league winner for your team.

Flex (RB/WR/TE)

Brandon Aiyuk SF (84.2% Rostered | 12.8% Started) – Man oh man, where do I begin. Former first round pick Brandon Aiyuk is not having fun. After falling behind in preseason due to injuries and others passing him on the depth chart, the ball just hasn’t gone his way.

• Week 1: 0 Targets; 0 Points
• Week 2: 2 Targets, 1.6 Points
• Week 3: 6 Targets, 14.5 Points
• Week 4: 3 Targets, 2.5 Points

These are Aiyuk’s first four games in PPR formats. When they actually threw him the ball in Week 3, he scored! I honestly do not know what is going on. Perhaps it’s an ego thing with Kyle Shanahan. But if you find Aiyuk on your waivers he is worth your last bench spot for now.
