It was quite the opening week for the NFL, as must-see performances bookended it. One thing is for sure, it is never dull in fantasy football.
Heading into week two, I wanted to mix up the format of this article. Hence, I scrapped the positional ranking. Instead, I’ve opted to use the weekly projections laid out by Sleeper in full PPR leagues. I am sticking with the five positions to pick players I anticipate to fall short of the projected total.
QB: Sam Darnold Under 17.8 Fantasy Points
This matchup is not ideal for Sam Darnold. After starting the season against one of the worst defenses in the league, Darnold now gets one of the best. I expect Darnold to be under constant pressure, and with the talent the Saints have, this looks to have the potential for a multiple turnover performance. It’s a big ask to expect the offensive line to keep Darnold clean all game. I am assuming this game will snowball and get worse as it goes along for the quarterback.
RB: Chris Carson Under 16.3 Fantasy Points
Chris Carson is a fun player who can take a back seat to Wilson from time to time when the offense decides to let Russ cook. Given how vulnerable we saw the Titans against the pass in week one, Shane Waldron will take advantage of this and unleash his quarterback in week two. When that scenario unfolds, it limits Carson in fantasy football. I expect the pass-catchers to have big days for Seattle in week two and Carson to take a backseat.
WR: Terry Mclaurin Under 16.1 Fantasy Points
Terry Mclaurin is an easy choice this week. With Ryan Fitzpatrick on the shelf for the next two months, it hurts the upside that McLaurin has. We are going back to the situation we dreaded with Scary Terry in the past. Volume from inefficient quarterback play. Add in a matchup with James Bradbury of the Giants, who’s coming off a matchup where he blanketed Courtland Sutton all afternoon. I can’t say I like Mclaurin to beat his projection this week.
TE: Mike Gesicki Under 10.5 Fantasy Points
The projections for Mike Gesicki appear too high, as he was an afterthought in Week 1. With Will Fuller out, Gesicki managed to receive only two targets, playing 21 total snaps. With Fuller back from his suspension in Week 2 to lineup with Waddle and Parker, I do not see how Gesicki will increase his role moving forward. Therefore, I am fading Gesicki for the foreseeable future in fantasy football.
Flex: Mike Davis Under 11.19 Fantasy Points
We saw the Cowboys flat-out abandon the run against the Buccaneers. The defense is legit and will be a difficult matchup for any running back this year. One where the line is totally outmatched, and it makes me want no part of Mike Davis this week. I have a hard time seeing Mike Davis eclipsing this mark unless he can find the endzone. Davis is a season-long fade, but in particular, this matchup with Tampa Bay.
