Trevor Lawrence looks to begin his career off to a hot start, and many have hyped Laviska Shenault up as the best receiver in Jacksonville. James Robinson is a capable running back and the addition of Travis Etienne gives the Jaguars a one-two punch that could be great for fantasy football.

Those four are the likely favorite to produce decent fantasy numbers this year. However, there is one more player that could make an impact, as Marvin Jones has been rather consistent throughout his career. If he plays well enough, he could help you win your league as a late-round flier. Having solid FLEX options on your roster is always a good thing, and it might be worth your time to invest in the veteran receiver. Let’s break down why Marvin Jones is the top sleeper in Jacksonville.

Jones benefited from Kenny Golladay’s absence, as Matthew Stafford targeted Jones often last year. During his final season with the Detroit Lions, Jones racked up 76 receptions, 978 yards, and nine touchdowns. That equated to 227.8 fantasy points in PPR formats. Those numbers allowed Jones to finish as the WR18, per Fantasy Pros.

Now he’s on a new team and is likely the third receiver on the depth chart. DJ Chark still has a chance to be a solid receiver in the league, but he has to step up to stay relevant in the fantasy football world. Marvin Jones has the tools to surpass Chark as Lawrence’s second favorite target behind Shenault. According to ESPN, Jones is projected to finish with 60 receptions, 839 yards, and 5 touchdowns. With those numbers, he’d finish with 175.48 fantasy points, making him the WR50 on ESPN’s list.

Those projections aren’t the greatest, however, Marvin Jones has a history of outplaying above expectations. Whenever we think he’s done, Jones steps up. Stafford looked to him in the red zone often, and that could carry over in Jacksonville. The Jaguars don’t have the greatest tight end group, which means Jones could be the favorite target when Jacksonville is within scoring distance.

Additionally, Jones’ catching percentage in the last two years has been over 66%. A decent number that Lawrence can depend on. In comparison, Chark’s best catch percentage of his career was in 2019 where his catching percentage was just 61.9%. That number dropped dramatically last season, as his catching percentage was a measly 57% in 2020.

Some are hoping Chark can turn it around as he’s still young and only has three years under his belt. For that reason, many are still drafting Chark ahead of Shenault and Jones in redraft right now. He had a down year, but many seem to believe that Lawrence will unlock Chark.

If that’s the case, let your league-mates draft Chark at his current ADP while you take someone else with higher upside. Then, follow that up by selecting Marvin Jones at his ADP of 115 (somewhere in rounds 10-12). You could end up with the Jaguars WR2 who has touchdown upside as he could be Lawrence’s favorite red-zone target.
