Fantasy Football 2021: Waiver Wire Week 9

fantasy football

As I write this, the Giants are currently down 14-10 with 5 seconds left in the first half – and Daniel Jones takes a knee (they would go on to lose in heartbreaking fashion to the Chiefs). Welcome to this week’s edition of the fantasy football waiver wire. Where players are claimed and managers are shamed. This week’s quarterbacks aren’t enticing, with Jameis Winston going down to a season-ending injury. We will also be taking a look at running backs ‘All Day’ long when it comes to Derrick Henry’s replacement. Be sure to do your due diligence when making any transactions.

As always, all roster percentages are via ESPN Fantasy Football. The threshold to qualify a player for my weekly waiver list is 65% or less.

Quarterbacks

Tua Tagovailoa MIA 36.2% Rostered – Facing a bottom five defense in Houston, Tua Tagovailoa should have himself a nice game. Consider him first when choosing from streamers.

Derek Carr LV 55.2% Rostered – Facing an up-and-down Giants defense, Derek Carr has a chance to be a league winner this week. I won’t be mad if you play him.

Daniel Jones NYG 53.9% Rostered – The Raiders pass defense has been legit, so expect Daniel Jones to utilize his legs more often than not. Most of his points will come on the ground, especially a rushing touchdown.

Justin Fields CHI 17.7 % Rostered – Justin Fields finally got the game he needed, when Matt Nagy was forced to stay home due to COVID. He was able to go outside the pocket and take the play into his hands. I hope this continues, even against the Steelers defense.

Carson Wentz IND 32.9% Rostered – Facing an awful Jets defense, but an offense that fought hard against the Bengals. Carson Wentz should be able to easily lead his team down the field.

Running Backs

Adrian Peterson TEN 0.1% Rostered – Expected to be Henry’s replacement, Peterson will be a touchdown dependent low-end RB2. He should be rostered almost everywhere.

Jeremy McNichols TEN 1.9% Rostered – Shown to be the primary pass-catching back, McNichols could be rostered in PPR leagues.

Boston Scott PHI 4.9% Rostered – Boston Scott and Jordan Howard could both be on this list, as it seems they will receive all of the work while Sanders is out. They are touchdown dependent flex options at most.

JD McKissic WSH 54.8% Rostered – Gibson seems to be hurt more than was realized. Patterson handled more work and McKissic is a must grab in PPR formats.

Carlos Hyde JAX 6.7% Rostered – James Robinson got a bit banged up, and now is the time to start stashing handcuffs. Replace that WR6 on your bench with Hyde or any other handcuff you may want.

Wide Receivers

Cole Beasley BUF 62% Rostered – Easily the definition of a PPR receiver. Beasley gets peppered with targets almost every game. He does have his low moments and because of that he stays in the WR3/Flex range.

DeVante Parker MIA 55% Rostered – Parker is averaging 13 points per game with 9 targets a game. If Parker scores a touchdown he propels himself into the WR2 category for any given week.

Darnell Mooney CHI 47.6% Rostered – Mooney is the new WR1 in Chicago. He has been targeted five or more times in seven of eight games. He is a flex worthy player each week.

Jamison Crowder NYJ 18.6% Rostered – Crowder has assumed his usual slot role since returning from injury. Another receiver catered towards your flex or deeper leagues.

Tajae Sharpe ATL 0.1 % Rostered – Seemingly the replacement for Calvin Ridley, Sharpe has proven he can stay healthy and shown a glimpse of his possible production. Check out Tom’s article detailing why you should go after Sharpe.

Tight Ends

Evan Engram NYG 24.3% Rostered – Reports are the Packers are interested in Engram. If the athletic tight end gets moved, he should be a valuable piece for that offense.

Tyler Conklin MIN  17.6% Rostered – Conklin sees his fair share of work. Streaming tight ends can be difficult, but a tight end who is targeted 5-6 times a game is always a good fit.

Pat Freiermuth PIT 8% Rostered –  Following NBA Jam standards, Freiermuth is heating up. Two straight games with seven targets and he is working his way into a consistent role.

D/ST

NE Patriots 59.5% Rostered – Facing the Panthers who are hurt and not playing well, Bill Belichik should have a field day with his defense.

NO Saints 54.9% Rostered – A great Saints defense that stopped Tom Brady this past week, are at home to face a discombobulated Falcons team.

IND Colts 54.6% Rostered – Thursday night game against the Jets. Mike White won’t replicate how he played against the Bengals.

Kicker of the Week

Titans Randy Bullock is going to need a strong leg to keep up with the Rams. He is my fantasy football kicker of the week.
