Fantasy Football 2023: D/ST Streams for Week 5

fantasy football - defense, D/ST Streams Week 8, The League Winners

Welcome back to D/ST streams, where everything is made up and the points don’t matter. I’m your author Hunter and this is your weekly recommendations for D/ST streams for Week 5. Let’s take a look at last week’s mistakes – I mean picks!

  • Cincinnati Bengals: 2 pts – Bust
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 15pts – HIT
  • Indianapolis Colts: -2 pts – Bust
  • Week 4: 1 Hits – 2 Busts
  • Season:Hits – 6 Busts

So that wasn’t great. Another week of 1-2 isn’t ideal. I did not foresee another week of the Bengals looking bad. I also did not expect the Colts to be playing from behind the entire game. If I had looked closer, I would have noticed that a majority of the Rams sacks allowed came in one game. I will try better this week. With that, let’s look at the D/ST streams for Week 5.

Detroit Lions – 62.4% Rostered

The Detroit Lions will be hosting the Panthers with rookie quarterback Bryce Young and their struggling offense. The biggest issue is that Detroit is looking like they may be without top wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who is currently listed as doubtful to play. While that will slow them down and increase the number of drives for the Panthers, it’s not the end of the world for an offense like theirs. Plus, the Lions’ defense has been on fire as of late – recording 2 interceptions, a fumble recovery, and 12 sacks in their last two games.

New York Jets – 58.3% Rostered

The easy reasoning behind this pick is the Denver Broncos have struggled all season. The Broncos have given opposing D/ST’s 6 or more fantasy points to three of their four opponents. The Broncos are a team you want to play QBs and pass-catchers against. The New York Jets defense has been solid, but has not been relevant for fantasy outside of Week 1. I expect that to change this week.

Houston Texans – 21.0% Rostered

The Houston Texans are a team that has been shockingly good. They’re the 12th-ranked fantasy D/ST with a top passing offense. Outside of their loss to the Colts, the Texans defense have had 10+ fantasy points each week. This week, they get a lackluster Falcons team that just cannot seem to get the offense going. Between the strength of that defense and the struggles of that offense, this is a good matchup to target.

Conclusion:

I know I have been on a bad streak as of late, but I’m really hoping to turn it around this week. I can honestly see all three of these teams winning handily this week. That’s one of the most important aspects of a good fantasy D/ST. As always, good luck  and may the streams flow your way!
