Players to buy, sell, or hold in the AFC South for fantasy football dynasty leagues.
Buy – Christian Kirk WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars paid Christian Kirk and Week 1 showed us they plan to use him. He saw twelve targets on the day and turned it into six receptions and 117 yards. Good for 14.5 points in Half-PPR scoring and a top 20 WR finish in fantasy football.
The Jaguars defense does not look strong. Meaning, they will be playing from behind a lot. Kirk will provide a safe PPR floor in most games. If he is able to find the endzone he will help put your team over the top.
He is currently WR42 on KTC. This guy is only 25 years old and you can still get him for a second round pick. I don’t know if I would pay a late first, but if I need to give a second and third to get it done, do it!
Honorable Mention – Nyheim Hines RB, Indianapolis Colts
Hines saw six targets and caught all of them. Unfortunately he did fumble, but managed to still score 8.4 fantasy points in Half-PPR leagues. Of course this recommendation is for full PPR leagues. Hines is going to enjoy having Matt Ryan checking down to him for another year. Send a third round pick and get cheap depth before bye weeks and injuries start.
Sell – Derrick Henry RB, Tennessee Titans
This isn’t because Dontrell Hillard went nuts and scored 20.4 fantasy points in Week 1. This is just a move that should be made before it is too late! Derrick Henry is 28 years old and is coming off his first major injury in the NFL. He was the fantasy football RB1 before going down with his Week 8 injury. However, in a game where the Titans were up early, Henry only managed 8.4 fantasy points. That is concerning.
I believe this will be the last season you can still get a first for him. He is still ranked as the RB14 on KTC. There is a long list of guys after him I would flip him for if I can get something on top. For example, if I can flip him for J.K. Dobbins plus right now, I am doing that before Dobbins comes back from injury.
You could wait till he has the big game, but I really don’t see the price rising because of his age.
Honorable Mention – Brandin Cooks WR, Houston Texans
I love Brandin Cooks; easily one of the most underrated WRs in the league. All he has done throughout his career is put up consistent top 24 WR seasons in fantasy football. Yet, he is ranked as WR40 on KTC. His value over the last few years has plateaued. His value is around an early 2023 second. I don’t think you can get a first, but if you can get a second plus, take it. The guy keeps putting up solid numbers, yet gets no bump in his value.
Hold – Travis Etienne RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Do not panic! You can be frustrated, but don’t panic! You need to respect what James Robinson has done, but selling Etienne right now would be the wrong move. One poor game wouldn’t create enough of a buying window.
Travis Etienne was explosive on his runs – never losing yards and was making guys miss! He had a few runs called back on penalties. Lawrence overthrew him in the endzone early in the game. He also dropped what could have been a touchdown late in the second quarter on a routine dump off deep inside the 10.
Stay strong. It is going to be more of a committee approach than Etienne managers wanted. However, he is way too explosive for big games not to in the near future.
Hold – Kyle Philips WR, Tennessee Titans
You got him in the fourth round of your fantasy football rookie drafts, or later. Kyle Philips looks like the next Hunter Renfrow out there. He won’t ever raise too high in value, but don’t sell unless someone is offering a second. Tannehill obviously likes him and there is a good chance he will become that trusty third WR or flex option in your lineups.
