Fantasy Football Dynasty: Buy, Sell, & Hold – NFC North Edition

fantasy football - justin fields

It has been a crazy start to the season for this division. The Lions are the highest scoring offense, producing fantasy football studs each week. The Bears have no trust in Justin Fields and have decided to go back to old school, smash mouth football – even if they are losing. The Packers and Vikings have been hit and miss so far through four weeks. Let’s take a look at a few of the assets from this division and what we should be doing with them on our dynasty rosters.

Buy

Justin Fields – QB – Chicago Bears

Former first round pick Justin Fields has struggled this year, and didn’t look great last year either. He averaged 11.40 points last year. This year he has averaged 10.39 through four games. He only has one double digit game this year, that came back in Week 1.

The Bears are 2-2 this season, winning games with their run game and defense. Justin Fields has thrown a total of 67 passes through four games, Josh Allen had 63 attempts in Week 3 alone. At some point, the Bears need to trust Fields. This is a guy who threw for 63 TDs and over 5,373 yards in his last 22 games of college with the Buckeyes.

He currently sits as the QB18 on KTC and is valued around an early 2023 2nd. Fields is a dual threat QB that you will want a piece of moving forward. Look for the Bears to add receivers through the draft or free agency in the offseason. We saw Jalen Hurts take a step forward in the passing game with A.J. Brown added. Fields’ current receivers would struggle in the CFL. Get this guy some weapons and let’s see what he can do. Buy now and hope for a year three breakout!

Honorable Mention

Jamaal Williams – RB – Detroit Lions

Are you a contending team looking for some RB depth? Jamaal Williams is a nice cheap option. He is currently the RB3 in fantasy football, averaging 17.3 points per game. The Lions offense is scoring points and both Williams and Swift (before injury) are getting chances.

The downfall; Williams is 27 and in the last year of his contract. The Lions might be willing to pay him again, but you just never know. He is valued around a late 2023 second.

Stash Buy – Ty Chandler – RB – Minnesota Vikings

I named him as one of my stashes in the offseason. If you can get him thrown into a deal do it. He has a good chance to be Dalvin Cook’s backup next year with Alexander Mattison set to be a free agent. His value right now is a late 2023 4th.

Sell

Aaron Rodgers – QB – Green Bay Packers

Rodgers finished last year as the QB6 in fantasy football, averaging 21.02 points per game. Fast forward to today, and he is currently the QB21, averaging 13.83 points per game. He hasn’t thrown more than five interceptions since 2017, but already has three through four games.

The Packers didn’t make a big splash after Rodgers lost Davante Adams this offseason. They waited until the second round to draft Christian Watson and he’s been dealing with injuries; though Romeo Doubs was added in the fourth round, he is looking like a steal. They also brought in Sammy Watkins, who already found the IR.

Rodgers is technically under contract until after the 2026 season. He would be 43 at that point. I don’t expect him to play out this contract. His price is not going to rise again, even if he puts up similar numbers to last year. His value will flatline or plummet at this point.

He is currently QB19 on KTC, valued around an early 2023 2nd. I would be trying for a late 2023 1st, even if I need to give a bit to make it happen. If you wait for a couple of good games, a contender will pay a 1st for a second QB in fantasy football superflex leagues.

Honorable Mention

Dalvin Cook – RB – Minnesota Vikings

Dalvin Cook is currently RB24 in fantasy football, averaging 10.4 points per game. His value is dropping. He is RB13 on KTC. If you can get a 2023 1st for him, do it now. Cook’s price isn’t going to rise again. The injury bug has already started to find his way again, so sell now before it is too late. His pass catching ability will keep him fantasy relevant till his contract is up after the 2025 season, but his value won’t get any higher.

Hype Sell

Amon-Ra St.Brown – WR- Detroit Lions

Currently WR7 on KTC. The guy is talented, no doubt about that. However, the Lions traded up for and drafted Jameson Williams back in April. Goff has looked good, but we don’t know what the QB situation will be next year. St. Brown could be the next Cooper Kupp (much younger though) or the next JuJu Smith-Schuster. Someone will pay a premium price for him, take advantage if you want.

Hold

Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson – WRs – Green Bay Packers

Romeo Doubs is one of the fastest risers in fantasy football. He is becoming Rodgers favorite target, with back-to-back games with 8 targets and a TD. His value is currently an early 2023 2nd, which is the same value as Justin Fields. If you can flip him for Justin Fields, I’d do it. QBs are harder to find than WRs, but I don’t think anyone is selling Fields for Doubs. His value will rise as the season progresses. However, I hesitate buying Packer receivers because we just don’t know what Rodgers will do in the offseason.

Christian Watson hasn’t lived up to his late 1st or early 2nd round pick that you used on him in your rookie draft. However, don’t panic sell for peanuts. Watson was always labeled as a project WR; he isn’t polished like the others who went early. Give him time to develop. He is valued around a mid 2023 second, but I doubt anyone is paying that right now. Lazard is only on a one year contract. Watson could fill that role next year, but there is also the chance Rodgers wants Lazard back. In that scenario Watson is outside the circle of trust.

Honorable Mention

Alexander Mattison – RB – Minnesota Vikings

Alexander Mattison is a free agent after this year. The Vikings have drafted Kene Nwangwu and Ty Chandler the last two years. Both of them have shown well in the preseason and are ready to take on the backup role.

There is a small chance Mattison could be traded before the deadline. His name was in the rumor mill during the preseason, but the Vikings know how valuable he is. With the strong 2023 RB class, I doubt Mattison finds a starting job next offseason, but there is that chance.

His is valued around a late 2023 2nd. Hold and see what happens, he plays well when given the chance.
