This is what kills your team; that top-ranked consensus player that has a fantasy faceplant. A fantasy faceplant is a player who finishes at least 15 spots lower than expected on a given week. Everyone knows Fantasy Football has so much variance week-to-week, so the faceplants might be just a blip. But as we go through the season we can see if the players show a trend. I will use FantasyPros each week to get the initial rankings. The players highlighted are from the TNF game and the Sunday day games. These do not include the SNF or MNF games. You can view last week’s faceplants here.
Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns
Started – RB6
Sunday Finish – RB31
The Browns controlled the game against the Bears and ran the ball 42 times for 215 yards. There was only 1 rushing TD by the Browns; that was made on a 29 yard run by Kareem Hunt. Nick Chubb ran the ball 22 times for 84 yards, while not receiving any targets this game.
Moving Forward: There is no reason for concern about Chubb going forward. This is the most carries he has got in 3 games and he just did not make it in the endzone. The Browns run the ball the 4th most in the league and he just did not get the TD this week.
David Montgomery, Chicago Bears
Started – RB15
Sunday Finish – RB34
With Andy Dalton out and Justin Fields getting his first start, the Bears offense struggled. The Brown’s defense smothered Fields and sacked him nine times. There were only 13 carries for the Bears. Montgomery had 10 of those, and added 2 receptions for 21 yards.
Moving Forward: There is concern about the ceiling of what Montgomery can do week-to-week. This offense is struggling, scoring under 20 points in all three games. Even with 20 carries in a close game against Cincinnati, he only ran for 61 yards. Montgomery is not getting the easy matchups like he did last year, and expectations should be a high-end RB3 with low-end RB2 upside in fantasy football based on game script.
Tyreek Hill, Kansas City Chiefs
Started – WR2
Sunday Finish – WR49
The Chiefs were only outgained by the Chargers by 24 yards, but the Chargers shot themselves in the foot with four turnovers. Patrick Mahomes threw the ball plenty, with 44 attempts. Tyreek Hill received the 2nd highest targets with seven. The problem is Hill is not getting the big plays and TDs, so his ceiling has been limited in the last couple of games.
Moving Forward: In the last two games, the Ravens and Chargers have been able to bottle up Hill. He has only 11 targets in those games, when he had 15 the 1st week against the Browns. There is no panic in my eyes for the Chiefs or Hill as they will get it going again. There are just going to be occasional games where teams set to double Hill and stop him from being an impact player in fantasy football.
TJ Hockenson, Detroit Lions
Started – TE2
Sunday Finish – TE30
This was a surprising game as Hockenson only received two targets of Jared Goff‘s 30 attempts. D’Andre Swift was the big recipient of those targets with seven, and a big day receiving. The Ravens are a good defense and with Hockenson being the main weapon through two weeks, it makes sense that they were set on limiting his production.
Moving Forward: No worries from me on Hockenson moving forward. Right now after Travis Kelce and Darren Waller, he is in the mix for the next TE with about three other players. Until Detroit has consistent WR options there are going to be plenty of targets for Hockenson from Goff.
