Fantasy Football 2023: Fact or Fiction Week 8

We are already to Week 8 of the NFL season and are back with another edition of Fact or Fiction! I’m joined this week by fellow League Winner contributor, Ryan Prosick, to determine if these statements are either true or false – and what that could mean for fantasy football teams.

Fantasy Football Fact or Fiction – Week 8

Travis Kelce will outscore every Kansas City wide receiver

Ryan: Fact

Even without the lead he’s already amassed, it is Kelce’s race to lose. Rashee Rice might soon give him a run for his money, but the book is officially closed for Skyy Moore after that significant drop. Kelce is the unquestioned number one weapon on this offense until stated otherwise. Or, until the age cliff inevitably hits – but he’s shown no signs of that just yet.

Dustin: Fact

Even prior to his relationship with Taylor Swift, Kelce was a wrecking ball on the field this season. He seems to be the one constant in the Chiefs’ offense, and it isn’t even close. The past few weeks though, Kelce seems to have really separated himself from the fantasy competition with the Chiefs’ WRs and I expect that to continue throughout the rest of the season.

Kirk Cousins will be the QB of the Vikings next season

Ryan: Fiction

I’m heartbroken by the injury to Cousins. He was playing the best football of his career despite losing his star receiver to injury. Minnesota will now have the opportunity to tank in a strong quarterback class; the only leftover question is if they have already won too many games. I could see Cousins signing with a team like the Steelers (that’s going to ruffle a few feathers). I think Michael Penix will continue to wear purple after his career at Washington and (potentially) be the quarterback of the future for the Vikings.

Dustin: Fact

Just when the Vikings seemed to be turning their season around, Cousins tore his Achilles. While the injury could be the end in the purple and gold, I think the team brings him back for one more season. Prior to Sunday’s injury, Cousins had 18 touchdown passes and was in the midst of a possible MVP-type season for the Vikings. This, paired with the Justin Jefferson injury, might derail all of the good that the Vikings had started to accomplish this season, but expect the team to have one more go with Cousins at the helm next season.

The winner of the Eagles-Cowboys Week 9 matchup will win the division

Ryan: Fact

I say this because I firmly believe the Eagles will win this game. Do I dare say the Cowboys do not have a signature win yet? That 49ers game was the most telling on their schedule thus far, and to go down the way they did means more than them crushing the Rams or Giants. The Eagles look like they are on track for that coveted one seed.

Dustin: Fact

While the Eagles struggled in their two matchups with the Washington Commanders (both wins), I think they dispatch the Cowboys fairly easily in Week 9. Jalen Hurts is coming off of a stellar performance and gutsy win against Washington. That momentum should carry into next week against their hated rivals. Look for this game to be close throughout, but a late Dak Prescott interception will cost the Cowboys the game.

Will Levis is the answer for the Titans

Ryan: Fact

Look, I’m confused about how Levis did not end up in the first round with so many teams needing quarterbacks, and what we have seen this season. Levis has had the tools, and I know this is soon, but I think he will be what this Titans team needs. This game felt like an overperformance, but this Titans team desperately needed a spark of energy, and they got it. A season that once felt lost now has life, and I’m excited to dive into the All-22 of this game.

Dustin: Fact

Levis balled out on Sunday against the Falcons, and it appears that Ryan Tannehill might be sitting next to Malik Willis on the bench in the near future, once he returns from injury. The amount of rapport that Levis seemed to have with DeAndre Hopkins  was mind-boggling, considering the fact that Tannehill could never get him the ball this season. Yes, it was a great performance against the Falcons, but careers have to start somewhere. Look for Levis to build off of his solid performance in Week 8 and prove the doubters wrong.

It is finally time to bail on Quentin Johnston

Ryan: Fiction

Look, it has not been good so far. Everyone thought Mike Williams going down would see Johnston start to be featured. However, it is clear he was not ready, and it feels like he is warming up to the NFL. Johnston got the best landing spot and saw everything he needed to get on the field early. He looked good on Sunday night, finally showing a little something; I believe the arrow will point up moving forward. However, he should still be on waivers in fantasy football redraft leagues and is a hold in dynasty.

Dustin: Fact

It is all facts from me this week, and I’m over the Johnston experiment already. He hasn’t performed when given the opportunity this season, and has cost me some victories in fantasy football early on. I thought that he would be the answer when Mike Williams went down, however, that has not been the case. Count me out on QJ at this point.
