Welcome back to the GameDay; where we look at stats and tidbits for fantasy football matchups for the upcoming week slate. In Week 1, we had some studs perform as such; and many sleepers that, well, forgot to wake up for Week 1. We’re looking at you Cole Kmet!!!
Prior to Week 1, I had looked at explosive plays over the summer in preparation for the 2022 fantasy football season. You can check them out here: Explosive Pass Plays and Explosive Rush plays. Unfortunately, we will not be looking at explosive plays since the stats have not been updated for the 2022 season.
We are also ignoring the TNF matchup between Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angelos Chargers as this article will publish after the game.
Week 2 Passing Game Tidbits
- Justin Jefferson leads all players with 81 total YAC yardage. This was coupled with leading all players with YBC yardage as well. This affirms the stats that a Shanahan-style offense is maximizing all aspects of Jefferson’s game making him the elite prospect he is.
- The Buffalo Bills led all teams with a 9.6 YPA for pass plays, while allowing the lowest pressure rate of 5.3%. In Week 2, they get to face off against the Tennessee Titans that gave up a bottom ten 7.4 YPA for pass plays while generating the second most pressure rate at 57.1%.
- Kyle Philips of the Tennessee Titans comes in third with a 42.9% team target share. That is behind only Davante Adams and A.J. Brown. Add him in all leagues ASAP.
- Jaylen Waddle led Tyreek Hill in YAC (7.5 to 5.0), but Tyreek commanded a 38.8% target share. This will likely continue throughout the season for Waddle. His volume will be down from 2021 but efficiency will go up yielding similar results for fantasy football.
- Jameis Winston leads all Quarterbacks with a 6.9 AIR/A, air yards per attempt. Winston continues to be a gunslinger. With a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, expect upwards of 35 passes for Winston.
Week 2 Rushing Game Tidbits
- The top 3 running backs that got to enjoy the highest TOTAL YBCON (yards before contact) were Jonathan Taylor, Nick Chubb, and Leonard Fournette. Surprisingly, Cordarelle Patterson and D’Andre Swift were the next two.
- However, Aaron Jones and Mike Davis (only 2 attempts) enjoyed the highest YBCON/ATT (yards before contact per attempt) at 5.0. If JK Dobbins can return and stay healthy, he will be a steal for the rest of the season.
- Saquon Barkley lapped all running backs in terms of YAC/Att (yards after contact/attempt) with a 6.6 YAC/Att. Josh Jacobs is surprisingly second with 4.9 YAC/Att.
- Javonte Williams and Travis Etienne Jr. led all running backs with 3 targets in the RedZone each. Javonte Williams also led all running backs with 12 targets.
- The Pittsburgh Steelers gave up 9.6 yards per catch to the Bengals as Joe Mixon saw nine targets. Don’t be surprised in the New England Patriots utilize their running backs often in the passing game.
