What a wild week in fantasy football. In Week 2 we saw the Miami Dolphins giving people record-breaking fantasy totals! Dare I say the Tua, Hill, and Waddle stack is comparable to the Denver Broncos stack of Peyton Manning, Demaryius Thomas, and Emmanuel Sanders?
They say three weeks make a trend, so hopefully, we can rely more on these stats next week. Still, we now have two weeks’ worth of fantasy football data to dissect. Let’s jump right in.
Week 3 Passing Game Tidbits
- The Los Angelos Chargers have given their RBs 23 targets through two games, trailing only the New York Jets. Now they face the Jacksonville Jaguars who have given up 15 targets for 138 yards (highest yardage to RBs in the league) to RBs. That is a 9.2 YPA rate!
- The Arizona Cardinals have faced two top 5 TEs in Darren Waller and Travis Kelce. Hence they have yielded the most receptions and yards, 19 and 212 respectively, to the TE position. Their Week 3 opponent, Los Angelos Rams, are third in TE targets with 20 targets commanding a 26.3% target share. Tyler Higbee is a sneaky TE streamer as he is averaging 6 targets a game.
- The Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets game has a modest over/under of 44.5 but could be a sneaky shootout. The Jets (52 passes per game) and Bengals (44.5 passes per game) rank first and second, respectively, in pass plays per game. Neither defense is strong against the pass with the New York Jets tied worse for .354 EPA/pass play. Fire up those Bengals in one-and-done fantasy football leagues! If you have not played in any, go search #BabyBowl and @lineupsowdown on Twitter.
- The New Orleans Saints are only generating pressure at an 8.3% rate which is the least in the league. However, they are allowing a 56.72% completion rate which is the third lowest in the league. Their secondary is playing lights out so I would not be confident in any Carolina WRs or Baker Mayfield.
- The LA Rams are allowing the highest completion percentage in the league at 75.44% while generating the third lowest pressure rate at 12.9%.
Week 3 Running Game Tidbits
- Speaking of the LA Rams, they have allowed 72 yards rushing to the QB position coming in third most. Kyler Murray may be a sneaky play in one-and-done leagues.
- The Washington Commandeers are allowing a league-high 7.5 yards per rush attempt. Their Week 3 opponent is Philadelphia Eagles who have Miles Sanders (averaging 5.9 yards per rush attempt) and Jalen Hurts (averaging 5.3 yards per rush attempt).
- Prior to week 3’s TNF game, the Houston Texans led the league with 59 rush attempts against them allowing 287 yards to RBs. The Chicago Bears will (should) likely keep running the ball against the Texans. If they do keep favoring the rush, David Montgomery is a good DFS start.
- The Detroit Lions are lapping the league at a 5.0 rush YBC/A (yards before contact/attempt). The second-best team in New Orleans Saints’ 3.9 rush YBC/A. D’Andre Swift s taking advantage with a ridiculous 10.0 yards per rush on just 20 rushes so far this season. It will be interesting to see where in the down and distance are they utilizing Swift as a rusher. My gut feeling says on second and long when the box is not loaded.
- The Detroit Lions are also allowing the most rush touchdowns to RBs with 4 in two games, giving up league-highest 24.6 points to RBs. The Vikings-Lions game could be a fantasy goldmine at the RB position with Dalvin Cook and D’Andre Swift getting a ton of opportunity.
