Fantasy Football: Start or Sit – Week 2

fantasy football start sit

We are back with Week 2 of the fantasy football season. To keep you covered week in and week out, The League Winners are here to help you with any start or sit questions you have. Spending the week agonizing over who to start in your flex? Put your mind to rest and rely on us week in, and week out. If you missed last week’s picks, you can see them here.

Starts

Hunter Renfrow, WR – Las Vegas Raiders (Thomas Christopher)

Week 1 was a weird one for the Las Vegas Raiders offense. Davante Adams had an unworldy 17 targets, and Josh Jacobs only ran the ball 10 times. Hunter Renfrow didn’t put up a great Week 1, but he still was T-2nd on the team in targets with 6. Against the Cardinals at Home, I expect Renfrow to bounce-back and get more looks from a more reserved Carr.

Matthew Stafford, QB – Los Angeles Rams (Harry Prskalo)

Week 1 was not the start that the defending Super Bowl champions wanted. They were embarrassed in the first NFL game of the year. This is the week they turn it around against the Atlanta Falcons. The elite Stafford-Kupp duo will be enough to win this game, while the Rams offense will look to demolish the poor defense in Atlanta. I am predicting Stafford has a game that silences the critics.

Aaron Rodgers, QB – Green Bay Packers (Aaron St. Denis)

The Packers are going to come out angry after being manhandled by the Vikings in Week 1. They get a much easier matchup this week with the Bears; and Rodgers figures to try and take it out on the team he “owns”. His WR corps may be bottom of the barrel, but he will undoubtedly spread the ball around and feed both his running backs with targets. Look for Rodgers to bounce back in a big way and take his frustrations out on Chicago. Fire up Rodgers as a mid range QB1 this week in fantasy football.

Trey Lance, QB – San Francisco 49ers (Jeremy Shulman)

Count me in the group of heads that believes Trey Lance will light the fantasy football world on fire this season. Unfortunately, with monsoon conditions last week, he didn’t exactly do that in Week 1. I’m looking at a huge bounce-back this week as Lance will be playing at home and against a team in Seattle; a team that will be coming down from what many on the roster admit was their Super Bowl in a win against the Broncos and former QB Russell Wilson. With Jamal Adams out and a poor D overall, Lance will get back on track and give you a very good fantasy performance this week.

Allen Robinson, WR – Los Angeles Rams (Sheldon Hand)

To say Allen Robinson disappointed in Week 1 would be an understatement. Two targets, one reception and 12 yards, yikes! However, that stat line doesn’t tell the whole story. Robinson ran a route on 95% of Stafford’s dropbacks. He was creating separation, but Stafford wasn’t looking his way. Sean McVay has already said he plans to call more plays where Robinson is the primary receiver. Stafford should have more time in the pocket this week and I expect he will look Robinson’s way this week. Lock it in, Robinson will have a touchdown this week!

Sits

Jahan Dotson, WR – Washington Commanders (Thomas Christopher)

Jahan Dotson took a lot of people by surprise in Week 1. He scored two touchdowns in a game where Carson Wentz was on fire. On paper, it looks like that could happen again against the Lions in Week 2. However, despite AJ Brown going off, the Lions defense put the clamps on the other Eagles’ WRs in Week 1. On top of that, Dotson two scores came off of only 3 targets. That type of usage isn’t something I want to rely on at the WR position in fantasy football. I’m sitting Dotson in a ‘prove me wrong’ moment – especially when there’s better options at this point in the season.

Tony Pollard, RB – Dallas Cowboys (Harry Prskalo)

The Dak Prescott injury was the worst thing that can happen for everyone in this offense. Cooper Rush is now the starting QB and no one will benefit from that. The Cowboys were the only team to not score a touchdown Week 1, after finishing as the highest scoring team last year. Pollard will still be sharing the backfield with Elliott, and this offense has a history of not clicking without Dak. I would sit Pollard until we see something that shows us otherwise. I am predicting an underwhelming game for Pollard.

David Montgomery, RB – Chicago Bears (Aaron St. Denis)

The Chicago Bears will likely be in a negative game script for the run game tomorrow against the Green Bay Packers. With Montgomery looking less than stellar in Week 1, and the possbility of losing more touches to Khalil Herbert, it figures to be a rough day for the Bears, specifically Montgomery. I’m looking for better options than Montgomery on my fantasy football team.

Darnell Mooney, WR – Chicago Bears (Jeremy Shulman)

I love Mooney, but there is just no way he can be trusted this week against Jaire Alexander and the Packers. Alexander didn’t shadow Justin Jefferson in Week 1 too often, but I don’t think it’ll even be necessary here given the pressure and coverage this D is capable of. That, and Mooney is not yet JJ.  Mooney is looking like the only viable receiving threat for Chicago in a game where the Green Bay crowd and D will all be targeting him. I’m waiting until next week, at home against the Texans, before I trust him in my starting lineup.

Najee Harris, RB – Pittsburgh Steelers (Sheldon Hand)

Harris was a full participant in practice on Thursday and will play this week. He left last week’s game in the fourth quarter, and has been dealing with an injury all offseason. The risk of reinjury is something to consider.

Harris struggled last week. He only had 23 yards on ten attempts, then two receptions for 3 yards. His fantasy day was saved with a receiving TD. This week he is facing the Patriots. Bill Belichick does his best to shut down the opposition’s top guy. They held the Dolphins to only 65 rushing yards last week. I know you drafted him high, but I’d pivot if you have another option.
