Fantasy Football: Week 17 Waiver Wire (Championship Edition)

fantasy football

Week 16 has come and gone. If you are reading, this week then it probably means you’re in the fantasy football championship game. To that I would say, congratulations! You did it. You did the work all season to put yourself in the best position to succeed. You also probably got a little lucky and didn’t lose too many good players to injury or Covid this past week. But to quote the late great Kobe Bryant, “jobs not done”.

As we go into Week 17 you must be able to alter your playstyle for the title game. I’m not saying to bench your studs, or anything like that. More like if you have a bench player for depth that you are not going to start, then drop them for a player that only has value for this week.

Or, pick up a player that you think your opponent will target. The point of fantasy football is to win. I’m not saying to commit roster churn and add/drop six defenses so your opponent can’t have them. Just pay attention to the waiver wire and pick up players if your opponent loses one to Covid. Grab that back up and watch them squirm. That said, good luck in Week 17 and I hope your fantasy football season ends in glory!

QuarterBack

Justin Fields, 20.8% Rostered – I know he didn’t play in Week 16 due to injury, but he was active in case of emergency. The Bears play a Giants team that is struggling hard at the moment, so it’s a decent matchup. That said, I hope you have a better option and that’s why you made it to the ship.

Trey Lance 12% Rostered – As it turns out, Jimmy G injured his throwing hand in the 3rd Quarter of his Week 16 matchup. While reports speculate that Garoppolo will try to ‘gut through it’, there’s a real chance Trey Lance finds himself starting in the fantasy football finals. If that’s the case, he’s an instant plug-and-play player.

Running Back

Darrel Williams, 60.3% Rostered – CEH exited Week 16 due to a shoulder/collarbone injury. Williams was a good fantasy football running back while CEH was out earlier this year with a knee injury. The Chiefs play the Bengals this week in a game that could turn into a shoot-out. Williams would be on the field in passing situations often, where he thrives. His roster percentage is sort of high, but he really hasn’t done much since CEH came back. Check your waivers to see if he is out there.

Rex Burkhead, 24.2% Rostered – Recommending Burkhead in a Texans uniform doesn’t feel great, but if David Johnson sits next week he will be in line for the majority of the backfield work. Opportunity and workload play a big part in fantasy football. For a RB needy team you could do a lot worse than Sexy Rexy.

Wide Receiver

Amon-Ra St. Brown, 61.8% Rostered – His roster percentage jumped by 30% last week and it didn’t matter that Jared Goff was out. St. Brown has been awesome for the past month and gets the Seahawks in Week 17. It’s not the best matchup, but for a pick-up and play WR option you can’t do much better.

Braxton Berrios, 3.8% Rostered – The Jets play the Bucs and this game should get out of hand fast. You know what that means? A lot of junk time where you can’t run the ball. You already can’t run on Tampa, so the way to beat them is through the air. Wilson is gonna have to throw it early and often so, making Berrios a play in the fantasy football title game.

Tight End

Gerald Everett, 17.4% Rostered – Gerald Everett topped 60 yards receiving for the second consecutive week. This week he gets the Lions. Death, taxes, and starting your position players against Detriot.

Cole Kmet 40.5% Rostered – If Fields is back, then Kmet becomes a great start in the fantasy football playoffs. He wasn’t great with Foles, but getting 7 points from the TE position won’t kill you. Kmet is like left over pizza. Is he your first choice? No. Is he good enoug,h? Yes.

D/ST

Eagles D/ST, 64.4% Rostered – The Eagles crushed the Giants with 18 fantasy points in Week 16. They get a plush matchup against a Washington team that just got lit up by the Cowboys. I’m starting Philly everywhere I can.

Seahawks, 38.1% Rostered – This is hoping that Jared Goff does Jared Goff things, and doesn’t play like how he did against Arizona. Granted, that was at home and this game is on the road in Seattle outdoors.

Kicker

Greg Zuerlein, 58% Rostered – Kicking indoors at home against the Cardinals. No wind and good offenses should make for several kicking opportunities.

Evan McPherson, 35% Rostered – Bengals vs Chiefs should have plenty of scoring. I doubt Burrow throws for 500+ again, but the Bengals have too many weapons to get shut down even in a difficult matchup.

Good luck in Week 17 and I hope your fantasy football season ends in confetti!
