Fran Brown Gives Syracuse Strong 2026 Recruiting Class in Early Signing Period

Under Fran Brown, the Syracuse Orange have seen incredible highs, and drooping lows. After a 10-win season just a year ago, Syracuse spiraled into a 3-9 record, and lost to the worst team in the ACC to close out the regular season. However, that hasn’t seemed to stop the Syracuse football team from making big splashes with their official 2026 recruiting class.

Currently, the 2026 recruiting class ranks 30th nationally and seventh in the ACC.

Syracuse Football 2026 Recruiting Class: Early Signing Day

The early signing period proved fruitful for Syracuse. However, it’s what happened the day after that really secured Fran Brown’s status as an excellent recruiter. After not signing his Letter of Intent initially, five-star wide receiver Calvin Russell eventually committed to the Orange after rumored pushes from Michigan and Miami (FL).

Alongside Russell is fellow Miami Northwestern recruit, three-star safety Tedarius Hughes. They will join Darius “Boobie” Johnson as Bulls alumni on Syracuse, and will look to make an instant impact on the 2026 season for Coach Brown.

Syracuse use was also able to secure two other four-star players in Amare Gough (wide receiver) and Alexander Haskell (defensive line). Gough was a tremendous receiver and safety at Thomas Jefferson, earning All-Region and All-State honors. Meanwhile, Haskell put together a 7.5-sack senior season and also blocked a field goal.

And while not every recruit can’t be rated a four (or five)-star prospect, the Orangemen also have some other very talented freshmen in 2026.

Interior offensive lineman Jojo White is a three-time First Team All-Conference selection from New Jersey. Wide receivers Darnell Stokes Jr. and BJ Garrett are the third and fourth-highest rated wideouts from the state of Delaware. Defensive end Kamron Wilson is a 6-foot-5 highlight machine with good bend and football IQ. They also have a potential sleeper at wide receiver in Zamondre Merriweather, a three-star prospect out of Glendale Community College. Finally, they have acquired two excellent special teams players in Jimmy Gregg (punter) and Shay Barker (kicker).

Alongside them, these other three-star recruits have committed to Syracuse.

  • Jarius Rodgers, Edge – Fleming Island
  • Chase Geter, Cornerback – Stone Bridge
  • Walt Frazier, Defensive Lineman – The Haverford School
  • Javeion Cooper, Offensive Tackle – Melbourne Central Catholic
  • Kordae Houston, Defensive Lineman – South Oak Cliff
  • Ibn Muhammad, Safety – Camden
  • Gemaus Sickle, Linebacker – Burlington Township
  • Maurice Medley, Wide Receiver – St. Frances Academy
  • Cameron Hairston-Taylor, Athlete – Patrick Henry
  • Carter Bashir, Tight End – Neumann Goretti
  • Zaid Lott, Quarterback – Providence Day School
  • Shemaj Henry, Interior Offensive Lineman – Chester
  • Shavane Anderson Jr., Running Back – William Penn
  • Phoenix Henriquez, Wide Receiver – Smyrna
  • Brayden Charney, Offensive Tackle – Cardinal Newman

Whether the 2026 class proves to be as successful as their composite ranking suggests remains to be seen. However, Coach Brown’s ability to recruit in the northeast and in Florida is impressive. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a football coach in western New York that’s able to recruit players from Florida. Sure, JMA Wireless Dome helps mitigate some of the state’s weather challenges. However, when five-star players like Russell commit to the program, it shows recruits believe in the message the head coach is conveying. And, that despite a down season, players still have faith in the direction of the program.

Fran didn’t use the term D.A.R.T. much this year. However, its message appears to still have found meaning for its intended audience.
