FSU vs. Kent State 2025 Recap: Dominant Again in Week 3 win 66-10

FSU, Florida State Seminoles, the league winners

The Florida State Seminoles came out of their bye, and there was no letdown. The Seminoles gave up a touchdown in this game, but otherwise dominated offensively. They scored 35 points in the first quarter, and there was never a doubt in the outcome. With that in mind, we’ll recap this 2025 contest between FSU vs. Kent State.

FSU vs. Kent State 2025 Recap

Dominant Running

The running game continued to be dominant under Gus Malzahn. The Seminoles ran for 498 rushing yards, and eight players had 30 yards or more. The running back rotation was different for a third straight game. Gavin Sawchuk was the lead back again, finishing with 11 attempts in only a half of play. The surprise this week was Samuel Singleton Jr. seeing action in the second offensive drive of the game. Singleton had the second-most attempts by a running back and scored a touchdown in the second quarter.

Jaylin Lucas only had two attempts but ran for 44 yards and was the punt returner for most of the day. Cam Davis also was put in the game earlier and had a nice 32-yard catch along the sidelines. Ousmane Kromah is not getting many touches in the blowouts but he is impressive when he gets in the game. He shows great power and will be a force as the season goes on. This game saw Tommy Castellanos run the ball more and he ran for 54 yards along with two touchdowns.

Danzy – The Secret Weapon

It is becoming a tradition to have a Micahi Danzy reverse for a touchdown each game. This time he took it 64 yards for an easy touchdown. Danzy has elite speed but it was nice to see him used more in the passing game. Before today he had two catches for 14 yards, but today he had two of over 40 yards.

One was a nice jump ball in the middle of the field and the other was a deep post where he beat the defender and Castellanos threw a perfect pass in stride. The way FSU is running the ball, the reverses will always be there but each week it seems Malzahn is going to invent more ways to get the Danzy the ball.

Defensive Teaching Moments

The Seminoles were dominant again but there were some teaching moments before they get into conference play. I know that is knit picking but with the blowouts it is important that Mike Norvell keeps the team focused and they do not get complacent. In the first quarter, the Golden Flashes had a nice play design on a fake quarterback keeper where the wide receiver got behind the defense for a touchdown.

The rush defense continues to be dominant allowing under 50 total rushing yards and keeping the offense in long third down situations. Elijah Herring and Justin Cryer continue to get pressure in the backfield and speed up the opposing quarterback. Focus may have been lost but there were a few times that the Seminole defensive backs allowed to much cushion to wide receivers. Overall it was a great game by the defense but some of the things on film could be targeted by better teams down the line.

What’s next in Week 5?

After two easy wins where starters did not play in the second half, the Seminoles will start ACC play next week. It is a tricky game on a Friday in Charlottesville against Virginia. The Cavaliers have been a surprise and with transfer Chandler Morris the offense is averaging over 39 points per game through three games. The Seminoles have not looked past their last two opponents, so they need to do that again in Week 5 of the college football season. Hopefully Tommy Castellanos will be healthy for the Seminoles because he has been so great in decision making in leading this offense.
