Welcome back, folks! Let’s see what the GameDay Edge stats help us learn about the matchups in week 3. I hope you have had a chance to take a look at the positional GameDay Edge matchup tool by The League Winners to gain you an edge on your weekly fantasy football matchups. If not go check it out here.
The GameDay Edge tool combines volume and productivity by players into one matchup score. As the season goes on, the tool will gain better correlation. The tool is meant to help uncover matchups that might have the potential to boom which are not evident intuitively. It’s early in the season and teams are still incorporating some new players and/or schemes. After week 3 or 4, the sample size will help correlate better. For now, use this as a gauge to identify high-volume plays.
Week 3 GameDay Edge Passing Game Tidbits
- The Jacksonville Jaguars have only yielded 19 points a game and just held the Kansas City Chiefs to 17 points. However, they are proving to be a pass-funnel defense. Teams are having a tough time rushing on the Jags but the Jags have yielded the fourth-most fantasy points per game at 25.7. They also have given up 80 pass attempts so far also tied for fourth-most in the league. CJ Stroud and Nico Collins will come through again solely based on volume.
- One good thing working for the Pittsburgh Steelers is they go from facing the lowest-allowed completion percentage defense to the highest-allowed completion percentage defense. The Cleveland Browns only allowed a 46.77% completion rate in two weeks. The Raiders are allowing an insane 81.69% through two weeks. George Pickens has the potential to boom this week with another long touchdown.
- Baker Mayfield has been playing very well through the first two games. There week 3 opponent’s defense has given up all touchdowns via passing. The Eagles lead the league in passing touchdowns given up at 7 total. The Eagles also force the second-most pass attempts. Stacking Baker Mayfield with either Mike Evans or Chris Godwin is a good bet this week.
Week 3 GameDay Edge Rushing Game Tidbits
- The Green Bay Packers score is boosted by the fact that they have had only 5 RB receptions on the season but Aaron Jones broke a big touchdown in week 1. However, the Saints are stingy against the run but have given up 8.64 yards per reception to RBs. The Packers may want to dial some more targets to the RBs in this game.
- Bijan Robinson could have a game for the ages this week. Take a look at the RB RUSH & RECEIVE charts on the GameDay Edge RB page breaking down a running back’s potential in the rushing matchup vs. the RB’s receiving matchup. For both, the Falcons’ matchup with the Lions exceeds the upper control line indicating positive matchups. My bold take is Bijan finishes with over 200 total yards.
- Both Najee Harris and Josh Jacobs have a great matchup in week 3 as the Steelers play the Raiders. Unfortunately, their respective teams are just not running the balls enough. In this matchup, each team is playing against a defense yielding 25+ rush attempts at 5.3+ yards per attempt. If the rush volume increases for Najee or Jacobs, they could get back on track this week. Jaylen Warren could be a cheap flex spot in DFS leagues.
