Funnel defenses are becoming more obvious. The Denver Broncos are struggling against the rush as they have allowed 149 more yards than the second-worst team. And it is not just that the Miami Dolphins went nuclear on them, which they did. Khalil Herbert and Breece Hall followed with over 100 yards against them. Start all running backs against the Broncos until further notice. Check out the positional GameDay Edge matchup tool by The League Winners to gain you an edge on your weekly fantasy football matchups.
The GameDay Edge tool combines volume and productivity by players into one matchup score. As the season goes on, the tool will gain better correlation. The tool is meant to help uncover matchups that might have the potential to boom which are not evident intuitively. It’s early in the season and teams are still incorporating some new players and/or schemes. By now, the sample size will help correlate better. Use this as a gauge to identify high-volume plays. Let’s look at some interesting matchups for week 6.
Week 6 GameDay Edge Passing Game Tidbits
- There are some juicy matchups in Week 6 for wide receivers with five teams with a high boom score. All five have an elite WR, though unfortunately, Justin Jefferson landed on IR. Jordan Addison will have to step up. He should be a starter on volume alone. The Bears-Vikings game is also likely the game with the best shootout potential. Both K.J. Osborn and Darnell Mooney are good sleeper picks to hit big on limited targets.
- The 49ers-Browns game features two of the best pass defenses against the offenses. Unfortunately for the Browns, their offense completion percentage is dwarfed by the 49ers passing offense. The 49ers hold a 72.26% to 60.87% advantage. The league average is ~65%.
- The Houston Texans have given up the least passing touchdowns thus far this season with only one passing touchdown. The Saints have only scored two passing touchdowns thus far.
Week 6 GameDay Edge Rushing Game Tidbits
- As mentioned in the intro, the Denver Broncos’ rush defense is really bad. The Chiefs have had a modest 4.5 yards per rush attempt. Isiah Pacheco should feast in this division game. He has a good rush and receiving score per the matchup.
- Rachaad White has been playing a high percentage of snaps. However this week he faces the tough Detroit Lions defense. They are allowing just 96 fantasy points a game to running backs. He has been a volume play thus far in the season and this week his opportunity volume projects to be low. The Lions are only allowing 15.8 carries and 3.4 receptions to running backs.
- Both the Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Rams are allowing the most rush attempts to quarterbacks. This week they face two mobile quarterbacks in Desmond Ridder (his legs are better than his arms) and Joshua Dobbs. Both are good sleeper picks for one-and-done leagues.
