No more undefeated teams are left in the NFL. Defenses are increasingly playing shell coverage in 2023 trying to limit big plays. Offenses have been dinking-and-dunking most of the drives as a result. Look for that to change as offenses figure out ways to push the ball downfield. With so many good players on a bye, check out the positional GameDay Edge matchup tool by The League Winners to gain you an edge on your weekly fantasy football matchups.
The GameDay Edge tool combines volume and productivity by players into one matchup score. As the season goes on, the tool will gain better correlation. The tool is meant to help uncover matchups that might have the potential to boom which are not evident intuitively. It’s early in the season and teams are still incorporating some new players and/or schemes. By now, the sample size will help correlate better. Use this as a gauge to identify high-volume plays. Let’s look at some interesting matchups for Week 8.
Week 8 GameDay Edge Passing Game Tidbits
- The Seattle Seahawks are in the bottom three league-wide in the number of pass attempts. Now they face the team allowing the least passing attempts to opposing teams, the Cleveland Browns. It will be hard to trust any Seattle wide receivers since the leading target player changes weekly.
- The game between Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers sets up well for the Bengals. The 49ers are allowing the fifth-highest receptions to wide receivers. If the 49ers cannot get pressure on Joe Burrow, the Bengals should move the chains. However, they may have trouble getting chunk plays since the 49ers allow the second-lowest yards per completion at 8.5 YPC.
- The Washington Commanders rank fifth in wide receiver receptions with 102 receptions. The weakness of the Philadelphia Eagles is against the pass as they rank second in receptions allowed and fourth in fantasy points to WRs. If the Commanders somehow find a way to neutralize the Eagles pass rush, they could have success via the air. Terry McLaurin is a sneaky good start in DFS this week.
Week 8 GameDay Edge Rushing Game Tidbits
- On the flip side of the San Francisco-Cincinnati game is the boom matchup for the rush offense for the 49ers. The Bengals have allowed the third-highest rush per attempt to opposing running backs. The game script will dictate this game. With Brock Purdy in concussion protocol, Christian McCaffrey will be in line for lots of opportunities.
- Dameon Pierce could be having his first good game this week. He faces the second-worst rush defense. The Carolina Panthers have given the most rushing touchdowns in the league to opposing running backs. Pierce may be a sneaky good play in DFS in week 8.
- Gus Edwards has seen 15+ rushing attempts in back-to-back weeks. Justice Hill leads the Ravens with 11 targets. Now they face the Arizona Cardinals who have allowed five rushing touchdowns and four receiving touchdowns to running backs. With the threat of Lamar Jackson running, the Cardinals will have a hard time handling the rush attack. Look for the Ravens to control the clock and one of these running backs to have a multiple-touchdown game.
