Riding a three-game winning streak, Coastal Carolina (5-3) gears up for another home game at Brooks Stadium this Saturday in a Sun Belt clash against Georgia State. The Chants have finally found consistency; compiling three wins in a row, they now sit firmly in second place in the Sun Belt East. Coastal should continue that win streak as they face a lowly Georgia State team, that’s currently 1-7.
Georgia State vs. Coastal Carolina: History and Game Excerpts
Coastal is 7.5-point favorites, The over/under is 58. The Chanticleers have a 75.1-percent chance to win this meeting based on the money-line’s implied probability, while the Panthers have just a 29.3-percent chance. Their all-time series record is 4-4. In fact, neither team has won any games in a row, alternating wins every year. Last year Coastal won, so by fate, Georgia State should win this round, unless the Chants break the cycle and secure consecutive victories.
After a back and fourth win against Marshall last week to overtake them in the East, head coach Tim Beck spoke about the program.
“Really proud of our guys, they fought hard, it was a great game. Didn’t start out the way we hoped with a pick six, but then they hung in there and kept fighting and at the end I liked our results.”
Down 20-17 at halftime, Coastal caught fire in the second half, beating Marshall 44-27.
When asked about the turnaround of the season, Coach Beck replied, “I really think that’s what changed our season: we stopped talking about our opponents and looking forward, and just focused on us. The total intentionality from everything to the weight lifts, the meetings, to practice. doing your job and being the absolute best you can be on every snap and play till it’s over … We as a coaching staff and our players believed it, It’s just we knew it would take some time. Worrying about going 1-0 today, having a great practice today, that’s what we talk about.”
Since their last loss, The Chants have won three straight, averaging 38.6 points per game during that stretch.
Georgia State vs. Coastal Carolina 2025 Preview: Keys, Players, and Predictions
Key Players for Coastal
All eyes will again be on quarterback Samari Collier, who has sparked life back into Coastal’s offense. The quarterback has led Coastal to three wins in a row once he was put in against ULM. Last week against Marshall, he had 271 total yards and three total touchdowns.
What makes Collier so valuable is his ability to avoid turnovers while simultaneously being a dual-threat quarterback. Designed quarterback run plays, rollouts, extending plays, and finding yards on the ground when no one’s open are all ways he can use his legs to his advantage. It’s almost like because of his mobility, he’s unlocked Coastal’s full offensive potential.
Wide receiver Bryson Graves has emerged as a solid target for Coastal this season. Last week, he caught his first touchdown of the year and finished with 40 yards on the day. Look for the 5-foot-11 junior wideout to be making more plays against a Georgia State defense that has let up the most touchdowns in the entire conference.
Key Players for Georgia State
Georgia State boasts a balanced roster with playmakers on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Cameran Brown leads the offense efficiently, throwing for 1123 yards and 12 touchdowns while adding 251 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. The passing attack is supported by reliable receivers Ted Hurst and Javon Robinson, who have combined for 87 catches and 1075 yards. Running back Rashad Amos provides a steady ground game, averaging 4.4 yards per carry.
Defensively, Josiah Robinson and Marlin Dean anchor the linebacker corps, while Jordan Huff and D-Icey Hopkins patrol the secondary. The Panthers rank dead last in all of FBS college football (136th) in points per game allowed with 43.6.
Game Prediction: How Coastal Carolina Beats Georgia State
As Coastal Carolina tries to avoid the trap game, the formula remains the same: stay balanced, play clean, and control the turnover battle.
Samari Collier doesn’t need to throw for 300 yards, he just needs to keep the chains moving and protect the football. The Chants’ ground game must once again set the tone early, wearing down Georgia State’s front seven. If Coastal continues to play the way they did against App State and Marshall — tough, resilient, and opportunistic, they should easily extend their winning streak to four games. However, if their early-season woes creep up, it’ll be a long day in Conway.
If the Chants take care of business like they should, don’t be surprised if they ride this late-season surge all the way into the Sun Belt title conversation.
Prediction: Coastal Carolina 31, Georgia State 13
