The Jacksonville Curse loomed large over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday as the team dropped their 8th straight game in Jacksonville by a score of 24-0.
The Indianapolis Colts were without breakout star receiver Michael Pittman due to a hamstring injury. They were also without rookie WR Alec Pierce as well. That led to Ashton Dulin and Nyheim Hines carrying the receiving workload for the Colts. The duo of Matt Ryan and Jonathan Taylor were unable to push the Indianapolis Colts to victory with the losses of those players.
Matt Ryan finished with a pedestrian stat line. He was only able to muster 16 completions out of 30 attempts for only 195 yards. Jonathan Taylor was a little better. Taylor managed to go 9 for 54 yards on the ground and chipped in 1 catch for 9 yards.
For the Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence played a great game, going 25 of 30 for 235 yards. He had 2 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Newly acquired Christian Kirk was the beneficiary of both touchdowns, and finished with 6 receptions for 78 yards. The Jaguars ground game was led by James Robinson; who, despite his low YPC total of 2.8, was able to muster 23 carries and scored a touchdown.
This bizarre road losing streak against an inferior opponent will now continue for at least one more year. With the loss, the Colts have now failed to win in Jacksonville since a 44-17 win on September 21st 2014. For whatever reason, the Colts have been unable to win in Jacksonville regardless of the talent on their team. The Jaguars have had their woes for a few years now, but have had the Indianapolis Colts’ number at home.
The loss moves the team to 0-1-1 on the season, while Jacksonville goes into Week 3 with a 1-1 record; and potentially leaves the week in 1st place in the division.
