Jonathan Taylor signs three-year extension with the Indianapolis Colts.
After a whole offseason of drama, a deal has finally been signed. The Indianapolis Colts signed Jonathan Taylor to a three-year, $42M extension with $26.5M is guaranteed. What does that mean for the Colts? Indy now has an elite running back locked up for multiple years while Anthony Richardson is still on his rookie deal. We have seen that Taylor has the talent to be the best running back in the league, and now he’s alongside Richardson who could be a superstar in the making.
Jonathan Taylor Fantasy Football Outlook
If you took the gamble on Taylor you should be very happy, but I would temper expectations – for now. After dealing with an injury and not participating in training camp, it could be a slow start.
Taylor’s debut game will be against the Tennessee Titans, who have been shutting down the run the entire season. If you need to play him, you can plug him into your fantasy lineup and hope he is able to break off a big run. Indianapolis has stated that Taylor will be on a snap count, and his workload will be ramped up over the next month. Once he does start to receive his usual workload, he is a solid RB1 rest of season.
Taylor’s potential ceiling is just too high, and being alongside Anthony Richardson will help so much. That duo can be very dangerous for fantasy football because now defenses will have to pick their poison between Richardson or Taylor running the ball.
Now that Taylor is back, Zack Moss’ value completely plummets. He is just a handcuff to Taylor now. This should help out the WRs a little more now that the defense will have to worry about Taylor in the backfield.
If you took the gamble on Taylor in your fantasy drafts, this is a win, but expect a slow start. The Indianapolis Colts are currently tied for the lead in their division, and now all of the drama is over. Look for Richardson and Taylor to help this team claim the division.
