Kansas Jayhawks Football: Recruiting Roundup – May 2025

Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas Football

The early summer months tend to be a relatively slow time of the year for college football recruiting. However, the Kansas Jayhawks have been busy and continue to bring in football players for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

Kansas Jayhawks Football: Recruiting Roundup

Kory Amachree, Running Back – Haslett

Kory Amachree is the big name to know in terms Kansas football recruiting additions. Amachree is a four-star prospect and the sixth-ranked player in the state of Michigan. He is the highest ranked running back to commit to Kansas since Devin Neal in 2021, and he ending up working out pretty well for the Jayhawks.

As a junior, Amachree ran for 1,100 yards and 18 touchdowns in just six games before suffering a season-ending leg injury. His skillset could make him an immediate impact player for the Jayhawks.

Terrence Samuel, the current wide receivers coach for Kansas, was on Michigan State’s staff for eight years and developed a strong relationship with Amachree’s father during that time. Amachree and Samuel’s son, Draven, are also close friends. His recruitment came down to Kansas and Michigan State, where his father played college football.

The addition of Amachree further solidifies what is currently the 13th-ranked 2026 recruiting class in the country, as well as the top class in the Big 12. The running back spot could be wide open by the time Amachree gets on campus, as both of the projected contributors in 2025 are redshirt seniors.

Joseph Credit, Linebacker – Pearland

The second commitment for Kansas came from Joseph Credit. The linebacker out of Pearland, Texas announced his commitment to the Jayhawks on May 13. He is the second linebacker in the class to commit to the Jayhawks, joining Lawrence native Josh Galbreath.

Credit is a three-star recruit and the 59th-ranked linebacker in the class. He chose the Jayhawks over a dozen other power conference offers, including Texas A&M, Penn State, and Ole Miss. On the field, he has plenty of experience off the ball and closer to the line of scrimmage on blitzes, as well as both inside and on the edge.

The Jayhawks linebacker group features three redshirt seniors, a true senior, and a redshirt junior. That means playing time at the position will be up for grabs when Credit gets to campus as a freshman. With his versatile skillset, he has an opportunity to contribute in multiple ways for the Jayhawks defense during his time in Lawrence. Having a player who can affect the game in more than one way is always a plus for any team, but especially one that will be replacing so much production at the given position.

Jayhawks Transfer Portal Updates

Kansas continued their recruiting trend by adding multiple players from the college football transfer portal.

Boden Groen, Tight End

After losing Keyan Barnett to the portal, Lance Leipold and his staff replenished the tight end room with Rice transfer Boden Groen.

Groen was the third-leading receiver for the Owls in 2023, behind NFL-bound Luke McCaffrey and 2024 All-AAC Dean Connors. An injury after just four games into the 2024 season forced Groen to redshirt and miss the rest of the year. However, he has a good chance to compete with DeShawn Hanika and Leyton Cure for the top of the depth chart.

Antonio Wilson, Offensive Line

The other new portal addition is offensive lineman Antonio Wilson. Wilson spent his freshman season at Garden City Community College, which is just a handful of hours west of Lawrence; and, the offensive lineman picked up plenty of FBS offers after his first season of collegiate play.

While he is the seventh new offensive linemen to join the team this offseason, three starters from last year’s team are gone, so there will be plenty of competition. Wilson may not be an immediate impact for the team, but his three years of eligibility offers some long-term security.

The Jayhawks lost a lot of production from last year’s team, and they responded by bringing in a solid transfer class. Kansas currently sits seventh in the Big 12 in terms of their 2025 transfer portal class, which says a lot about just how far Leipold and his staff have brought this program. It is even more evidenced by their conference-leading 2026 class.

If the transfers can come in and produce, this should be another step in the right direction for the Jayhawks.
