Maryland Football: Two Terrapins Test at 2026 NFL Scouting Combine

The 2026 NFL Scouting Combine concluded this past weekend, with hundreds of the top college prospects taking part in the intensive week-long interview in Indianapolis. While the vast majority of the evaluation for each player has already been completed by this point in the process, the NFL Combine provides coaches and team personnel an additional opportunity to meet with potential picks in-depth before the draft in late April. Although the on-field testing tends to get all of the screen time and publicity, in actuality it is the individual meetings and medical checks during the week that teams are most interested in.

Two Maryland Terrapins were among this year’s crop of combine attendees. This year, defensive back Jalen Huskey and offensive lineman Alan Herron both accepted invitations to professional football’s annual information-gathering extravaganza.

Maryland Terrapins 2026 NFL Scouting Combine Results

Jalen Huskey – Free Safety

  • Height: 6-foot-1
  • Weight: 196 pounds
  • Arm: 30 ⅞ inches
  • Hand: 10 ¼ inches
  • Vertical: DNP
  • Broad: DNP
  • 40yd: DNP
  • 10yd: DNP
  • 3-Cone: DNP
  • Shuttle: DNP
  • Bench: DNP

Jalen Huskey, like many other invitees this cycle, opted out of athletic testing. However, he did measurements as well as participated in team interviews and media sessions.

The dynamic defensive back was a second-team All-Big Ten performer this past season. He tallied 72 total tackles to go with one and a half tackles for loss, four interceptions, and three pass breakups while consistently contributing impact plays from a variety of spots in the secondary.

Known for his elite instincts and football acumen, Huskey shows up around the ball constantly, and is more than willing to throw his weight around as a tackler. Not running at the combine was a head-scratching decision to many, and on the surface could possibly add some credence to scouts questions and concerns about his speed and stop-start ability.

Currently projected as a mid-round selection, the Terps superstar safety is choosing to wait to showcase his skillset in College Park at Maryland’s pro day later this month.

Alan Herron – Offensive Tackle

  • Height: 6-foot-5
  • Weight: 308 pounds
  • Arm: 33 ⅛ inches
  • Hand: 9 ⅛ inches
  • Vertical: 33 inches
  • Broad: DNP
  • 40yd: 5.09s
  • 10yd: 1.84s
  • 3-Cone: 8.20s
  • Shuttle: 5.09s
  • Bench: DNP

In stark comparison to his teammate, Herron competed in all of the combine drills minus the broad jump and bench press, exhibiting exceptional explosiveness with an impressive vertical jump of 33 inches as well as showing solid speed after clocking in at 5.09 seconds in the forty yard dash.

The 2025 honorable-mention All-Big Ten selection started all 24 games at right tackle for the Terrapins over the last two seasons after transferring in from Division-II Shorter University, proving to be a stabilizing force on Maryland’s protection unit.

Herron’s final campaign was his best at the FBS level, earning a PFF pass blocking grade of 80.3 while leading a Terps offensive line that allowed just nine total sacks on the year, good for the fifth fewest in the nation and second fewest in the Big Ten.

However, due to his relative lack of high-level experience and technical refinement, questionable lateral agility, and underwhelming aggression in the run game, Herron is viewed as a late round pick or priority undrafted free agent with developmental potential and will have an uphill battle to secure a spot on an NFL roster this summer.

Maryland Terrapins Draft Pipeline

Recent history tells us that Huskey and Herron may not be the only two Terps with a chance to hear their names called during the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh next month. Since Mike Locksley took over as the head coach in 2019, Maryland has had a notable total of eighteen players drafted. Last year, the Terrapins football program sent five players to the combine, with six ultimately being selected in the draft. Accordingly,  other Terps with NFL dreams who were not invited to this year’s combine will still have an opportunity to impress teams at Maryland’s pro day on March 27th.
