Uncovering the three toughest games on the 2024 schedule for the New York Giants.
The New York Giants finished third in the NFC East last season. Because of that, they get a relatively weaker strength of schedule, ranking at 20th in the NFL for this year. As a result, they don’t have to play very tough teams outside their division often in 2024. Still, there are a few games that will be especially tough for New York. The Giants will need to prove that they’ve improved from last year if they even have a chance to win them. These are three of the toughest games on the 2024 schedule for the Giants.
Baltimore Ravens – Week 15
The Ravens are a hard team to beat year in year out. The 2024 season should be no different. They have the reigning MVP at QB, and were the No. 1 seed going into the playoffs last year. Let’s not forget to mention a top tier tight end in Mark Andrews, a rising star in Zay Flowers, and Derrick Henry himself at RB.
The Ravens defense ranked sixth overall last year. Yet, although they lost their defensive coordinator to the Seahawks, their interception leader in Geno Stone, second-leading tackler Patrick Queen, and the second-leading sack leader Jadeveon Clowney, they will still be good. At least, good enough to cause problems for one of the worst-ranked offenses last year. The Giants will have their work cut out for them.
Cincinnati Bengals – Week 6
The Bengals missed the playoffs last year with Joe Burrow injured most of the season. Yet even with him, they’ve started each of the last two seasons really slow out the gate. With that being said, the Bengals are still one of the best teams in the league when Burrow’s healthy. If the last two-year trend for the Bengals of starting the season slow holds true, it’s too bad for the Giants this game is Week 6, which is usually when the team starts to turn things around. The Bengals put up 24.6 points per game with Burrow at the helm. Let’s see if the Giants have what it takes to match their offense on the field and win the game.
Dallas Cowboys – Week 4 & 13
I guess this counts as two games technically, but the Cowboys destroyed the Giants twice last year, including on opening weekend in primetime at home. No team is the same year to year, but the Cowboys still project to be a problem for Big Blue, especially considering their record against the Giants is 9-1 over the last five years. Because of that, these matchups are important dates to circle on the 2024 schedule for the Giants.
The Cowboys lost a few pieces, including Tony Pollard and Tyron Smith, but still have Dak Prescott, Ceedee Lamb, and Micah Parsons. Because of that, they will still be a formidable force against a team they’ve been dominating as of late. The Giants will play them at home Week 4, though the Week 13 game likely holds more season implications. Let’s see if the Giants have prepared themselves at all for what the Dallas team will bring.
Honorable Mention: Eagles Week 7 & 18
I didn’t want to include two division rivals in this article. Yet, I went with the Cowboys because of how badly they’ve dominated the Giants. However, this article wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the other division rival that’s also dominated them in recent years.
The Eagles are 7-3 against the Giants over the last five years. Two years ago they completely dominated New York twice in the regular season, as well as in the divisional round of the playoffs.
On paper, the Eagles have a better roster than the Cowboys, with AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Jalen Carter, Darius Slay, and of course, Saquon Barkley. With a new offensive and defensive coordinators this year, the Eagles could easily regain their ability to dominate the Giants like in the past. These games will be filled with even more tension than usual with the fact that Barkley, the face of the Giants franchise the past five years, is now an Eagle.
