There are many things that can affect fantasy football lineups, but injuries are a big area of concern. Becoming a fantasy football league winner is all about how you adjust to the injury report regarding players on your roster. So let’s take a look at the Impact Injury Report – Week 2.
Aaron Rodgers‘ much-anticipated Jets’ regular season premiere was cut drastically short due to an ankle injury. X-rays were negative and not many details were provided during the game. This is potentially a huge blow to a New York Jets offense that had high expectations coming into the season.
The injury occurred when Rodgers was sacked by Leonard Floyd on the fourth play of the game against the Buffalo Bills on Monday night, and did not return to the game. Following the sack, Rodgers stood up for a brief moment and then sat on the turf and motioned for the trainers to come out to the field. Stay tuned for more updates from The League Winners as they come in.
Fantasy Impact: Very High
J.K. Dobbins has suffered the first major injury in the early days of the NFL’s regular season. Dobbins tore his Achilles tendon and will miss the remainder of the year. What makes this injury worse is that Dobbins was in a contract year and was expected to have a productive season.
From a fantasy perspective, Dobbins’ injury gives a bump to running backs Justice Hill and Gus Edwards. The move also caused the team to activate Melvin Gordon from the practice squad. Not only does the injury force the Ravens’ backfield into a more meaningful running-back-by-committee, but it allows rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers the opportunity to shine even brighter following his Week 1 performance.
Fantasy Impact: High
Travis Kelce missed the Chiefs’ season opening 21-20 loss against the Detroit Lions due to a hyper-extended knee, and it is not clear how many weeks he might miss. The Chiefs’ offense sputtered at home without Kelce, and their receivers dropped a ton of passes from Patrick Mahomes in the loss.
If Kelce misses much more time, the Chiefs might continue to struggle without their big tight end. This is an injury to continue to monitor, and is obviously impactful to Kansas City’s offensive scheme.
Fantasy Impact: High
Not only did the Ravens lose J.K. Dobbins for the season, but the team was also without the TE2 in fantasy football due to a quad injury. Mark Andrews is dealing with a quad injury that could cost him another week or two. According to ESPN, this is only the second time in Andrews’ career that he has missed a game due to injury.
With Andrews hobbled, tight end Isaiah Likely took the reigns and had one reception on one target for four yards. It is slightly concerning that Likely was only targeted one time in Week 1, as he is normally a fairly decent option in fantasy football when Andrews is sidelined.
Fantasy Impact: Medium
