The Philadelphia Eagles picked up the win this past Thursday to open the season against the Dallas Cowboys. Now entering Week 2, it’s the Eagles vs. the Kansas City Chiefs in a showdown at Arrowhead Stadium.
Philly’s Week 1 victory it did not come without its ups and downs, including a weather delay that lasted over an hour and a pregame altercation that soon won’t be forgotten. Yet in regards to the game itself, the absence of Jalen Carter was felt, with Javonte Williams scoring twice. The defense as a whole struggled without Carter. However, rookie Jihaad Campbell had a great debut and was the highest graded player on the Eagles’ defense by PFF.
There were plenty of positives, but now the focus is on Week 2. After squeezing out a win against Dallas, the Eagles face better competition with the Chiefs.
Kansas City is looking to avoid a 0-2 start, which they haven’t had since 2014. So, the Chiefs are going to be incredibly motivated for their home opener. A lot has changed in one offseason, but it is still an important game for both teams. Let’s get into the keys for how the Eagles can walk away with a win.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs 2025: Must-Know Keys for Week 2
Secure the CB2 Spot
The second cornerback spot was a problem for the Eagles against the Cowboys. Adoree Jackson gave up five catches for 103 yards, the most given up by a cornerback in Week 1, per PFF. Meanwhile, Jakorian Bennett allowed three catches for 20 yards on three targets. In essence, both corners struggled against CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. And, it felt like Dak Prescott and company were picking on that corner spot in the big moments throughout the game. So, what is the solution?
Unfortunately for Eagles fans, this week might not give the answers they’re hoping for. The Chiefs will enter this game extremely weak at wide receiver, with Rashee Rice still suspended and Xavier Worthy getting injured early in the game last Friday. Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster will enter the game as Patrick Mahomes‘ top wideouts.
Eagles’ cornerback Adoree Jackson might find more success this week, as he is a starter on the outside heading into Week 2. However, if he finds himself in trouble yet again, the Eagles have three options. They could start Jakorian Bennett and hope he shows improvement. Another option is moving Cooper DeJean outside, which would be a big hit to the nickel spot. That idea came about after they worked out Mike Hilton, who would play slot corner for the Eagles. The last option would come after the game in the form of a trade. Denzel Ward is a popular name, but with his recent restructuring of his contract, his teammate Greg Newsome would be the more likely candidate.
Either way, this game against the Chiefs will tell a ton about the corners as they look to bounce back from a Week 1 performance that needs some improvement.
Kevin Patullo Needs a Big Game
The offense came out hot against the Cowboys, although they cooled off, especially after the weather delay. Patullo and company can not afford that against a Chiefs defense that is eager for revenge after last year’s Super Bowl. Watching that game, Jalen Hurts bailed the offense out with his legs more than a few times. The Cowboys did not have the ideal personnel to counter that. The Chiefs, on the other hand, have an assortment of defensive talent that can help stop Hurts in the run game.
Keeping the offense in rhythm will be key. Patullo also needs to dial up looks to A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, especially now that it appears that Dallas Goedert will not suit up with an injury. The gameplan for Sunday will be interesting nonetheless. Kellen Moore had the advantage last year, but will that carry over with Patullo?
Eagles vs. Chiefs: Finals Thoughts for Week 2
This game will be a close one. Both teams underperformed last week, but one ended with a win while the other did not. The Chiefs’ defense was very susceptible to the pass last week, while the Eagles’ passing offense felt next to non-existent. Whoever gets back on track first will likely win this game, as both rosters are incredibly talented. This matchup will come down to coaching and whether the Eagles’ secondary improves from last week.
