Good afternoon, college football fans! Week 1 was incredibly wild with blowout losses, surprising matchups, and plenty of college football news. Things will only get crazier going forward, and with it – plenty of college football news. If you’re looking for scores and highlights, unfortunately you’ve come to the wrong place. However, don’t let that stop you from learning about the sport’s biggest news stories. Like always, the CFB newsletter is here to bring that news to the forefront for college football fans.
Fifth year eligibility?
According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, the NCAA is considering adding a fifth year of eligibility across all college sports. That eligibility wouldn’t stop players from keeping their redshirt year, either. On top of that, their new plan includes a “new signing model” would eliminate the National Letter of Intent. This addition makes for a significant impact not just on the college football level, but also for the NFL.
It’s interesting to see if this will be implemented – and when. One thing is certain, however, and that’s money truly does run the college football world.
Ready to flood the swamp?
After getting beaten at home by Miami (FL), Florida Gators fans (and their donors) appear to be over the Billy Napier experience. After all, it was the worst loss to Miami by the Gators since the 2002 season. Yet no matter where you look, one thing remains the same. Fans have had enough of Napier.
With multiple ranked opponents still left on the schedule, the head coach will have to pull a rabbit out of his hat to save himself from being terminated at the end of the season – even if the Gators owe him a ridiculous sum.

The Lubbock police department has announced that a 19-year old was responsible for the accident – and has since been charged with a DWI. Thankfully, there were no major injuries. However, at some point, the United States must crack down on drunk drivers as lives continue to be needlessly thrown away. Perhaps the only deterrent will be a heavily-enforced law with stiff punishment.
iPads and helmet comms to the rescue?
In April, the NCAA approved the use if iPads on the sidelines. They also approved the use of helmet communications this season. So far, it seems like both implementations could be standard operating procedure going forward.
During N.C. State’s win over Western Carolina in Week 1, Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren claimed that the iPads made a massive impact.
“I think the biggest thing is, when you get to the sideline, you know exactly what happened. The question and answer portion of the show is over,” Doeren said. “You hit the button, you get to see that this guy didn’t get it done, or their guy beat us, or we did a really good job doing this, and here’s how they’re playing us in coverage. I thought the iPads were really advantageous.”
College Football 25 updates
EA Sports released their latest patch on College Football 25, and fans couldn’t wait to hear this news. The new patch made several improvements on gameplay and modes, while also adding players and uniforms.
One of the biggest updates is that dynasty mode players can now edit the ratings for non-NIL players and recruits. They can also sub in an entire second unit or group at once, instead of having to do it on a player-by-player basis.
