The Washington Football Team has brought it all together. Not only will they compete for a playoff spot, but the team has plenty of players to help fantasy football managers as well.
We all loved what we saw from Terry McLaurin and Antonio Gibson last year. Both players posted Top-20 seasons at their respective positions last year in PPR formats without a Top-35 fantasy football QB all year. They were difference makers for an offense that needed a spark. Now WFT has brought in journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick and former Panthers’ WR Curtis Samuel.
This is exciting. Plain and simple. Ryan Fitzpatrick showed last year in Miami that he still has quite a bit left in him. While he’s not much of a mobile quarterback (actually closer to a statue than a scrambler), Fitzpatrick will have an elite pass-blocking OL that ranked 6th according to PFF. Fitzpatrick should have the time and requisite weapons to make this offense a threat.
Coming with him is Curtis Samuel, who brings some of the best versatility in the league to the table. Not only does WFT have an elite WR in Terry McLaurin, they now have someone who can get open across the field and make defenders miss.
Samuel will enter the WR2 role in DC, but should see some time taking end arounds and sweeps. Don’t be shocked to see him take snaps in the backfield as well. Samuel started his career primarily as a deep threat, but Matt Rhule and Joe Brady finally utilized Samuel the way he was meant in their first season with the Carolina Panthers. Now with Washington, the offense has some room to get real creative, and Samuel adds just another level to that.
Antonio Gibson is going to feast next year. J.D. McKissic should have a reduced role with the signing of Samuel. With the backfield all but Gibson’s to lose, Gibson should shine once again; especially in fantasy football. People forget he was a WR in college, and with Ron Rivera as the head coach it wouldn’t shock me to see him take some snaps lined up from WR now with a year into the system. Gibson is going to thrive in a creative offense, and with a great defense it could rely on him to eat clock when up in games.
The Washington Football Team is going to be fun to watch next year, on both sides of the ball. These players should all thrive for fantasy football and players could really feast with Fitz as their starter. He has shown on multiple occasions that he can support more than one fantasy football-relevant player in the past.
I think Washington Football Team heads into 2021 as the favorites to win the NFC East this year. It’s still very early in free agency so expect the team to continue to make moves. With the draft coming up soon as well, expect Washington to continue to bolster their team for continuous success.
