Travis Kelce hyperextends knee, could miss Week 1

Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee in practice on Tuesday, putting him in doubt for Week 1.

It seems like the injury bus isn’t hesitant on accepting new passengers. Shortly after news broke of Cooper Kupp potentially missing the first quarter of the season due to a hamstring injury, Kansas City Chiefs‘ tight end Travis Kelce has hyperextended his knee in practice, putting him in jeopardy of missing the Thursday Night Football matchup against the Detroit Lions.

Depending on the severity of the injury, Kelce could miss little time – to multiple weeks. After all, Kelce is known to gut through injuries. Considering it happened on Tuesday, however, and we’re unlikely to see Kelce suit up for Week 1 as the Chiefs take on the Lions to start the NFL regular season.

For now, Noah Gray becomes a waiver target in deep fantasy football leagues. Meanwhile, pass-catchers Skyy Moore, Kadarius Toney, Rashee Rice, and Jerick McKinnon receive a boost in fantasy football and DFS appeal. The injury to Kelce will have a ripple effect. It will give all Chiefs’ pass-catchers an added boost in opportunity with the massive target share vacancy. In Best Ball leagues, MVS, McKinnon, and Toney could be excellent values at their ADP. The biggest boost is likely to be awarded to McKinnon. The scat-back could turn into an excellent safety valve for Mahomes in what could be a thrilling matchup.

If Travis Kelce were to miss more than two games due to the knee hyperextension, it would be the first time since his rookie year – where he didn’t play at all. For now, though, fantasy football managers should go into Thursday night expecting Kelce to be on the sidelines in what is an unfortunate injury.

For Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, taking on a potentially surging Lions team has just gotten that much harder.
