Trey Lance left his Week 2 matchup between the 49ers and Seahawks on a cart with an air cast on his right leg.
Lance was attempting a QB run play from the Seattle 21 yard line with 2:20 to go in the first quarter. As he was tackled by the Seahawks Bryan Mone, his right leg was bent backwards underneath him and appeared to inflict serious injury.
Lance attempted to get up but quickly collapsed to the turf. The 49ers medical team brought Lance an air cast and they had to cart the second year quarterback off the field.
Jimmy Garoppolo has since taken over at quarterback for San Francisco. Garoppolo figures to be under center for the 49ers for a significant period of time, if not the duration of the season. Trey Lance was very emotional coming off the field; there’s a high probability that this injury keeps Lance off the field for the remainder of the season.
As per Dr. Chao, the early diagnosis on Lance appears to be an unstable right ankle fracture. This injury is similar to the one suffered by Dak Prescott not too long ago. If that were to be the case, the 49ers would be without Trey Lance for the remainder of the 2022 season.
That would leave the 49ers with Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback. Garoppolo was in the headlines throughout the offseason with potential trade rumors. Now, the veteran QB must put any drama to the side and lead the 49ers in the absence of Trey Lance.
#JimmyG time and maybe season.
