UFC 263 Preview: Deiveson Figueiredo vs Brandon Moreno

UFC 263

The Flyweight title is up for grabs again, as Deiveson Figueiredo takes on Bradon Moreno for the second time. The first fight ended in a draw and was one of, if not, the most exciting bout in Flyweight history. They come into UFC 263 as the co-main event and have the potential to be the Fight of the Night.

Due to their first go at each other, these two should be building up a rivalry for the ages. Hopefully this time we receive a winner from the outcome, but we should still see the fireworks display we saw back in December last year. With that said, here’s how these two Flyweights compare as we continue our preview for UFC 263.

UFC 263: Deiveson Figueiredo

  • Record: 20-1-1
  • Height: 5-5
  • Reach: 68.0”
  • Style: All-around
  • Affiliation: Team Figueiredo

Of his 20 career wins, nine have come by TKO/KO while eight have come by submission. It’s safe to say Figueiredo is an all-around fighter, as he’s dangerous from anywhere in the cage. He uses his short stature to his advantage, which allows him to have a solid center of gravity. “Deus da Guerra” can do it all, and he’ll be on full display at UFC 263.

His first matchup with Moreno was mainly spent standing up. The two went toe-to-toe giving it their all. It might be smart for Figueiredo to switch it up and use his powerful wrestling skills to gain an advantage. As long as he’s on top and avoids Moreno’s submission attempts, Figueiredo could make this a long night for his opponent.

UFC 263: Brandon Moreno

  • Record: 18-5-2
  • Height: 5-7
  • Reach: 70.0”
  • Style: Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu
  • Affiliation: Entram Gym

After gaining popularity as a contestant on the Ultimate Fighter, Brandon Moreno has become a fan favorite amongst the UFC. He’s known for giving it his all in the octagon, as he has had to prove himself time and time again. Many believed he was an underdog the first time he took on Deiveson Figueiredo, but he went to war with the current Flyweight champion.

Moreno is extremely dangerous on the ground, as 10 of his 18 wins have come by submission. Even so, “The Assasin Baby” is more than capable of standing up. His kickboxing skills are elite and he showed that in his last fight. He hopes to stun his opponent this time and walk away with the belt around his waist.

Figueiredo-Moreno Prediction

Even though taking it to the ground makes sense for both of these fighters, they may keep it standing like their first bout. Moreno has the height and reach advantage, though, not by much. Both fighters are great, all-around fighters and we should be seeing lightning strike twice.

Based on how the first fight went, it’s hard to imagine either of these guys putting each other away. Anything can happen once that cage closes, but we should be seeing another close bout that comes down to the wire. Being a judge for this matchup would be difficult, as the scorecard could end up going either way by the end of the fight. However, Moreno has the heart and passion of the sport to pull out with a victory.

PREDICTION: Brandon Moreno wins by Split Decision
