USF Bulls vs. Miami Hurricanes 2025: Must-Know Keys and Predictions

USF Bulls, South Florida Bulls, the league winners

Week 3 brings an incredible Florida-based football matchup, in a 2025 USF vs. Miami contest at Hard Rock Stadium in a game where predictions are all over the place.

If any team has the widespread attention of the college football landscape currently, it’s the South Florida Bulls. For the first time in seven years, USF has earned a spot in the AP Top-25 poll. They come into Week 3 at No. 18 after their stunning upset in The Swamp against the Florida Gators.

The difficulty of USF’s 2025 schedule is a topic that has been widely discussed. Yet, no one could have predicted that this would be how USF would start the 2025 season. With that being said, it’s not getting any easier. Due up next for the Bulls in Week 3 is the No. 5 Miami Hurricanes.

USF Bulls vs. Miami Hurricanes: Matchup History

The Bulls and the Hurricanes have faced off seven times, with their first meeting in 2005 and their most recent matchup just last season. USF is currently 1-6 against Miami, with their only win coming in Miami by just three points during the 2010 season.

The Hurricanes dominated with a 50-15 win when they visited Tampa last year. However, the 2025 Bulls can no longer be taken for granted. USF has easily been deemed the underdog when compared to Miami, but this year brings different implications.

Miami is starting its season 2-0 with a dominating win over Bethune-Cookman and a close call against Notre Dame. They may have lost quarterback Cam Ward as well as several other standout players, Miami’s roster is primarily solidified in new transfers to bolster the defense, and an offense that has come together under quarterback Carson Beck.

The odds of USF pulling off a win have been increasing little by little each day, but of course, there is a lot at stake here, and many factors to consider for both teams. This matchup will seemingly serve as the most meaningful meeting these two programs have ever had with each other.

USF vs. Miami 2025: Keys to the Game and Predictions

Key Players for South Florida

Leading the charge for USF is quarterback Byrum Brown. It will be imperative that he remains in control of this offense against a very tough Miami defense. One of Brown’s most recent go-to targets in the backfield is running back Alvon Isaac. Isaac was very impactful in breaking through the line and gaining massive yards against Florida in Week 2. Freshman wideout Christain Neptune was also impressive in The Swamp. Finally, wide receiver Keshaun Singleton is another one of Brown’s top targets who once he gets going, is difficult to stop.

Miami has one of the most simplistic offenses that the Bulls will face this season in terms of  complex play calls. However their wide receiver core is one to be reckoned with. With that in mind, USF’s defense will need to be on top of their game, especially the secondary. With Mac Harris and Jhalyn Shuler continuing to be a dynamic linebacker duo, cornerbacks James Chenault, De’Shawn Rucker, and safety Tavin Ward must stay focused on their assignments.

Finally, kicker Nico Gramatica also needs to be ready at any moment. He’s a crucial piece for USF, an x-factor on special teams, and has the ability and the talent to change the entire game in an instant.

Key Players for Miami

Miami’s offensive firepower starts with quarterback Carson Beck. The Georgia transfer has a knack for being able to break down defensive schemes and dictate his offense effectively. The Hurricanes’ weapons on offense are running back Mark Fletcher Jr. who has over 150 rushing yards already on the season. Another key player is wide receiver Malachi Toney, who has logged over 160 receiving yards. CJ Daniels is another reliable target for Beck as well.

The Hurricanes are also known for their versatile offensive and defensive lines. Rueben Bain Jr. is their standout defensive lineman, and he’s currently one of the best in the league. Defensive back Xavier Lucas will also be deep in the secondary, working to halt USF’s passing game.

Miami will likely aim to win the time-of-possession battle, wear down the Bulls’ defense, and keep Byrum Brown and the USF offense off the field as much as possible.

Keys for USF to Win in Week 3

Practice composure

There are very similar circumstances put in place for this game as there were for Florida last week. That includes the travel, stadium environment, and crowd noise. While USF played well against the elements in The Swamp, Miami is a different animal. Being able to maintain focus and not become easily rattled or shaken up will be vital.

Stop the run

USF will need to contain Carson Beck and his dynamic offense – more specifically, his explosive wide receivers. The Hurricanes offense doesn’t run the most complicated plays. Instead, they are quick on the break and can tire out any defense very easily. This matchup proposes an even bigger challenge for USF’s defensive unit.

Be technical

There were several small mistakes and penalties called last week that ultimately lead to loss of yards and time on the clock. While the odds are heavily against USF, it will be important for this team to play the cleanest football possible. They must try their best to avoid any little gimmicks that could lead them to running into more substantial problems later on. In the moment it may not seem like much, it could cost them the game in the end.
