2021 Fantasy Football Breakout Candidate: Dallas Goedert

As the offseason approaches, the Philadelphia Eagles are preparing to restructure the roster. With Zach Ertz possibly leaving, now may be the time Dallas Goedert becomes the starting tight end. He finished the season with 524 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Goedert aims to be a solid TE in fantasy football in 2021.

The future is bright for Dallas Goedert, as he’s already emerged as a solid target. He only played 11 games, but if Goedert didn’t fall to injury, he likely would’ve finished with a career year. Dallas Goedert is primed for a great season in 2021, whether Carson Wentz or Jalen Hurts is under center.

With that said, it’s time to start looking at Goedert as a potential fantasy football breakout. He’s been a stud since his college days and will finally get his chance to shine in the NFL. Here is why Dallas Goedert is a potential fantasy football breakout for the 2021 season.

The New Fantasy Football TE1 in Philadelphia?

With Zach Ertz likely gone, Goedert will presumably take over as the starter. Starters in any position are typically top fantasy football candidates. Goedert should be regarded as a solid fantasy option, as he even contributed as a backup for the Eagles.

More playing time means more opportunities, and with more opportunities comes more fantasy points. This season, Goedert was already outperforming Ertz, which bodes well for Goedert’s future in the NFL. Look for Goedert to be a valuable asset for fantasy football.

The Top Target in Philadelphia?

Considering the Eagles have one of the weaker wide receiver groups in the league, the front office will probably select another WR in the upcoming NFL draft. Even so, Goedert is likely to be a top-two target for this franchise. Alshon Jeffrey and DeSean Jackson are getting up there in age. Meanwhile, Jalen Reagor had a roller coaster of a season.

With that said, whoever the starting quarterback is for the Eagles will be looking Goedert’s way often. He has the size, speed, and strength to be a solid TE. Also, he’s a fantastic receiver who can get himself open. Unlike this season, 2021 may be the year of the TE, with Goedert emerging as a fantasy football breakout.

Potential Fantasy Football Draft Value

The TE position is going to be crowded in fantasy football next year. Especially considering the jump in production Goedert should receive. According to Fantasy Pros, Goedert finished as the TE20. He only scored 116.4 total points in PPR formats and averaged an impressive 10.6 points per game.

Goedert’s 10.6 fantasy points per game put him within the top 10 scoring TEs in fantasy football. Had he played all 16 games, Goedert would’ve ended the year as the TE7. That alone is impressive, considering he played as a backup throughout most of the year.

Between his production this season, and the extra playing time in 2021, Goedert has the potential to finish within the top five tight ends in the fantasy football world. I’m fully expecting Goedert to be one of the elite TEs next year in fantasy football.

As for his potential draft value, Goedert is possibly going to be drafted rather high. Three tight ends will be drafted before him, those being Travis Kelce, George Kittle, and Darren Waller. After them, Goedert could be battling for the fourth-ranked TE alongside Mark Andrews. With that said, look for Dallas Goedert to be taken within rounds four through seven, at least in early fantasy drafts.
