C.J. Mosley – The Forgotten Man

Taking a look at the fantasy football IDP prospects of New York Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley.

A four-time Pro Bowler, one time First Team All Pro, almost 600 career tackles in 79 games started and yet a forgotten man by most?

Yes, this C.J. Mosley who I am talking about. However, many seemed to have forgotten just how dominant Mosley was with the Ravens. Before signing on with the Jets in spring of 2019, Mosley posted the below stat lines for the Ravens from 2014-2018:

Games Started: 77

Tackles: 579

Tackles For Loss: 43

Interceptions: 9

Mosley was a beast in his stint with the Ravens. Even in his opening game debut with the Jets against the Bills, he was all over the field. Most importantly, for those looking to draft linebackers that will make an impact in 2021 draft C.J. Mosley!

New Jets Head Coach, Robert Saleh, will get the most out of Mosley. For example, below are the numbers that Fred Warner posted in 2020 with the 49ers under Saleh as DC:

Games Started: 16

Tackles: 125

Tackles for Loss: 5

Interceptions: 2

If Mosley can return to what he was with the Ravens, he will be legit top ten linebacker this upcoming season. Robert Saleh’s base 4-3 defense shouldn’t really affect Mosley as much.

Most coaching staffs find ways to adjust their systems to their players and it will be no different here. The coaching still will make sure Mosley is in the best situation possible to maximize his talents. Saleh did an unbelievable job as the defensive coordinator with the 49ers this past season. With a team ravaged by injuries the 49ers still finished in the middle of the pack in total defense.

I don’t see how Mosley, who will be highly motivated, does not have a top ten fantasy football IDP season. Barring any setbacks or injuries that might derail his season, look for a monster campaign from Mosley.

Looking Ahead

In 2017, Mosley was the number one IDP-linebacker in fantasy football with a total of 262.9 points in 16 games played. That’s an average of 16.4 a game over 16 games! To clarify, that’s more than some starting offensive players produce over the course of a given a fantasy season!

With budding star Quinnen Williams demanding double teams along the defensive line, Mosley will feast. His tackles, tackles for loss, and more importantly QB pressures/sacks will numbers will all go up.

As of now, I would say Mosley is one of those guys that will get overlooked and unnoticed through the first few IDP runs in your fantasy football drafts. Due to his injury and opt out in 2020, he’s been a forgotten man in most circles. Many owners will reach for the big names. that is when you can scoop Mosley up in the later rounds and solidify your IDP lineups. Mosley will be turning just 29 years old this summer, and he has a lot of football left in him. He can be secured and locked in dynasty leagues for years to come.
