Roster Cloggers after Week 2

Locking in on your fantasy football roster cloggers after Week 2.

Last week, we highlighted TE Gerald Everett, QB Kenny Pickett, RB Zach Charbonnet, and RB Rashaad Penny as fantasy football roster cloggers. Last week’s group generally continued to disappoint in Week 2, although Pickett has yet to play as of the writing of this article. Let’s look at some Roster Cloggers after Week 2.

This week’s group takes on a similar flavor. In your fantasy football draft, you were probably picturing these players making an impact in 2023. But things change quickly in fantasy football. Each of this week’s players is rostered in at least 35% of leagues on either ESPN or Sleeper‘s fantasy football platforms. Let’s dive in.

Chigoziem Okonkwo, TE – Tennessee Titans

Chigoziem Okonkwo was a hot name in dynasty leagues this summer. Fantasy football managers were drafting Okonkwo as a TE2 in redraft and home leagues by August. But Okonkwo has gotten off to a rough start. He put up a goose egg in Week 1 and saw only two targets. His numbers improved a bit in Week 2, but it looks like he will be yet another touchdown-dependent tight end in the player pool this season. His future could still be bright in the league, and he’s a usable streaming option. If you drafted Okonkwo, it’s safe to let him go to the waiver wire.

Antonio Gibson, RB – Washington Commanders

Brian Robinson is dominating the Washington Commanders‘ backfield right now. Antonio Gibson‘s Week 1 fumble likely cost him the trust of his coaching staff. You probably took Gibson fairly high in your fantasy football draft, and dropping him will feel uncomfortable. Yet unfortunately he’s seeing very limited opportunities in the offense right now, with just two carries and three targets in their Week 2 win over the Denver Broncos. Gibson is not a must-drop because of his upside as a handcuff, but his rostership will likely plummet this week, and rightfully so.

Michael Gallup, WR – Dallas Cowboys

Michael Gallup had a major opportunity to produce in Week 2 with fellow WR Brandin Cooks out with a knee injury. Gallup was invisible, with just one catch for three yards on two targets as CeeDee Lamb dominated the team’s target share. The Cowboys’ tight ends and running backs are too involved in their passing game for Gallup to be relevant. When Cooks returns, Gallup’s outlook is even more bleak. Gallup’s ESPN rostership was above 50% in ESPN leagues heading into Week 2. He’s a safe drop.

HONORABLE MENTION: Courtland Sutton, WR – Denver Broncos

Courtland Sutton looked good in Week 1, scoring a touchdown and putting up 13.2 PPR fantasy points in Jerry Jeudy‘s absence. His final Week 2 stat line was decent as well. Sutton had 11.6 points, but three of his five catches (and four of his seven targets) came late in the fourth quarter when Denver was down multiple scores. Meanwhile, rookie WR Marvin Mims Jr. made multiple big plays early in the game. I don’t think you can drop Sutton given his back-to-back double-digit PPR performances. The Broncos don’t look like they’ve significantly approved from their disappointing 2022 form. I’m looking to trade Sutton this week to get a better piece for my roster.
