Maybe it’s just me, but Week 5 didn’t bring the hype like previous weeks. Nonetheless, outside of injuries, we have a solid picture of how things are shaping up this year. We can stop hoping for vets to hit and start getting down to brass tacks. We’re back with our Roster Cloggers after Week 5! However, before getting into this week, I’d like to look at some of last week’s Cloggers and see how I did.
First, we have Pat Freiermuth. The Muth sat out his week five matchup with the Ravens, dealing with a Hamstring injury. So we won’t be victory-lapping anything regarding him.
Next up is Juju Smith-Schuster. he hauled in three catches for six yards. The Pats offense is something I want no part of. Even if there’s a boom week in Juju’s future, I wouldn’t consider adding him to my roster.
Finally, we have Mike Williams. I have no words. Let’s move on.
Kenneth Gainwell landed on my Watchlist. He garnered only a 38% snap share against the Rams and tallied seven carries and two targets. With a plus game script, the Eagles still felt it was necessary to keep giving the ball to Swift. However, he’s an injury away from fantasy relevance. So, I’m indifferent about keeping him on rosters or dropping him.
As we get into the Roster Cloggers after Week 5, remember each of this week’s players is rostered in at least 35% of leagues on either ESPN or Sleeper’s fantasy football platforms. Let’s dive in!
Tutu Atwell, WR, Los Angeles Rams
This week’s number one Roster Clogger Candidate hails from my LA Rams. Tutu Atwell was a steal in the first three weeks of the season while Copper Kupp was recovering from a Hamstring Injury. Kupp is now back, picking up right where he left off. Atwell seems to be the guy most affected by this. A touchdown kept him afloat last week, but he finished week five, catching two of five targets for nine yards. With Kupp and Nacua seemingly being the primary targets, Atwell will likely revert to a more gadgety role in this offense. He’s droppable in Redraft leagues and should move to the bottom of the bench in Dynasty leagues.
Odell Beckham Jr, WR —Baltimore Ravens
I think it’s time for fantasy managers to face the cold, hard truth. OBJ is done being a fantasy viable asset. His injuries remain problematic, limiting him to only three games this year. In those games, he has yet to draw more than four targets in any game. He’s a challenging option for fantasy managers to trust heading into a crucial part of the season. He’s not worth a roster spot until further notice.
Daniel Jones, QB – New York Giants
Daniel Jones has arguably been the most disappointing fantasy asset this year. After finishing as the QB9 last season, I, among others, had hoped for a similar finish this season. Jones has not looked the same this year. Through five weeks, he’s already thrown more interceptions than all of last year and is on pace for the highest interception total of his career. It’s not entirely his fault, as the O-Line has been atrocious for New York, giving up a league-high 30 sacks on the year. Regardless of the reason, Jones is rostered in over 50% of leagues. Now is the time to move off of him for a better option.
Watchlist: Dalvin Cook, RB – New York Jets
It’s been a sub-par year for Dalvin Cook, averaging 2.69 yards per carry. I’m unsure how long the Jets will continue giving him opportunities in the backfield. Breece Hall has bounced back nicely from the ACL tear he sustained last season and could be in the middle of a backfield takeover. The Jets seem to be taking the shackles off, giving Hall 25 touches against the Broncos. The situation is certainly worth monitoring.
